Golf TDI electrical problem ? and clutch query

Hi all,

I'm new today to this forum and I was hoping that somebody could help me with a couple of issues that may be something and nothing (hopefully the latter !).

I've got a Golf PD TDI (130) 03' plate and recently I have noticed the following :-

1) I have a fairly loud clicking sound coming from behind the glove compartment that sounds like something is trying to reset itself (I understand that the relays are located here). I thought it might be something to do with the aircon but starting the car with the aircon off makes no difference. The sound is evident from the first turn of the key even without the engine being started.

2) The clutch is making a squeeking noise when feathering it around the biting point at low speed. This is particularly noticeable when parallel parking and I can actually feel a slight rubbing/abrasion through my foot. The car was chipped 18 months ago but I wouldn't think that this would have any relevance.

Any comments/information that you can provide would be most welcome.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

I have never had these problems that your golf is suffering from and by the sounds of it, it is a job for the M.I.B'S (Men In Blue with little VW's on there shirts)

* The Clicking from behide the glove box sounds like a faulty air flap motor (never replaced one on a golf)

* The squeeking nosie could be a case of lubing up the joint at the top of the clutch pedel

Where is the indicator relay on a golf? Mines (Passat)behind/ built into the hazard switch. It has a mind of its own and chatters regularly.

Changing the relay/ switch only made the chatter quieter smile.gif

Not bothered changing the indicator stalk coz i am going to upgrade to cruise control, this will replace the stalk in question.

Only a thought

Mulkbear, this is a VAG COM scan fault on my car,my chattering is definately the indicator relay. Just curious as to what this motor flap fault will cause. My air con works great so i havn't really bothered with this fault.

1 Fault Found:

01274 - Air Flow Flap Positioning Motor (V71)

37-00 - Faulty

One of your air flow positioning motor has had fault, but if all positions on the air motor work (windscreen, air vent, floor vents) then it could just be a sporadic fault

Tobes, your a genius ! Pressed aircon re-circulation button and noise has disappeared. I assume that means problem solved and its normal ? Any idea why it happens ?

thanks,

Steve

Afraid it means the recirculation motor is on it way out. But least you know how to stop the noise 169144-ok.gif

Thanks Mulkbear.

I will check it works in all positions, but i am sure it does. I have reset the codes and it comes back immediately. Dont think its sporadic. Seems to think theres a fault when there isn't one smile.gif

I also have a thermal protection fault on one door! It all seems to work correct but again the fault comes on straight after a reset.

Thanks again 169144-ok.gif

Its only good if you know what it all means!! Sadly i dont understand it all yet. The idea was to get one and learn all about it while the cars running ok. Then when i get a problem i can sort it.

Or more likely, post it on here for advice from all the nice people like you smile.gif
