Frodo
Hi guys it has been a long time since posting. Mainly because the site is now banned at work and also cos things is manic. Why do Audi not offer Quattro on any TDi model apart from the 3Litre? I have even looked at the A3 sportback and this seems to be phased out as well?? Ian_C
You can get Haldex 'quattro' in the Sportback with the PD 140 engine on selected models. Do agree though - still don't think Audi sell the combination Sportback, 6 speed manual, haldex quattro and S line / Sport trim. F-----g annoying, but BMW and Audi always seem to launch new engines, specs and bodyshells over a slow period of time for obvious reasons. Bad for us the customer, good for them when we change up for a newer model. Ian
Frodo
I was looking for something more powerful. I currently have a 190BHp A4 B6 S-Line Quattro. The MPG is a bit low, average 28MPG, so was looking at other options. Ideally I would like the 2.0 or 2.5 TDi with Quattro. Paul
cerbera
Frodo, When I bought my B7 A4 2.0Tdi S-line recently I commented on this to the dealer (SG Smith in Beckenham). The salesman told me that they were just about to introduce it into the 2.0Tdi on the A4. TO be honest I'm not totally convinced it warrants it, but I have to admit to really missing Haldex/Quattro/RWD - FWD simply doesn't do it for me anymore! I think I may well change to a 3.0Tdi Quattro in a year's time as I was extremely impressed with the one I test drove. JT
Frodo
Stop JHT I was trying to convince myself that I didn't need a 3Litre, comments like yours just don't help Although the full economy, the reason for me to buy a diesel, aren't fantastic and close to those of the 2.0 TFSI
jimdiesel
I dont see the 2.0TFSi being as economical as the 3.0TDi. I am getting 33-35mpg on short blasts and 40mpg on a run, and this is with a tiptronic A6.
Frodo
Jim thanks for that I am starting to seriously think about a 3.0TDi, although Audi Tonbridge said a 2.5TDi Quattro is on the cards.
UBM
I was also told the 2.0TDI is about to be coming our way - although don't think it needs Q to be honest. Econonomy is great BTW! 2.0TFSI not much different to the 1.8T - stick with soot choice and you won;t be disappointed!
Frodo
I think I am going to ask for an extended period test drive in the 3.0 TDi if I can find a dealer with a manual. Looking at it again it is great looking car on paper same 0-60 as the 2.0 TFSI with Quattro and and 37MPG as opposed to 31MPG. I am sure the torque is fantatsic although I can't see the figures for torque or 30-50 or 50-70 as the Audi site seems to be having a off day. UBM
I'm sure the 3.0TDI will be fantastic. The 2L shifts, and remember the 2.5TDI seems to be still about (but you may as well get the 3L)!
jimdiesel
The 3.0TDi is a fantastic engine. CAR magazine are running an A6 3.0TDi as a long term test car (in germany), and they have had 270kph (166mph) out of it.
UBM
Jim - I'd have loved a 3L TDI A4, but it was a few too many pennies and kind of defeated the object of one of my reasons to change.
Frodo
I am not sure any of this will happen but my situation may change I must say that I have been a little disappointed with my S-Line 1.8T. But to be fair this is because I went from an S3. The A4 is more sluggish and I am only getting 28MPG. The 3.0L looks very, very good. Seems to be the only Quattro diesel but the MPG is still good and the BHP is comparable to the 2.0TFSI and I am sure the torque is out of this world. Just need to convince Audi Tonbridge to get me a manual loaner for a weekend. Paul
cruiser647
As a slight aside, what MPG do people get from the previous gen A6 2.5 TDi Quattro WITH TIP? Either the 150 or 163 or 180 versions........And is it vastly different from the the 1.9 TDi Q with TIP? Just thinking.......
cerbera
Frodo, IIRC the torque on the 3.0 Tdi is 450 Nm - feckin enormous basically!! Better than Beemers 3.0D (of which I'm a big fan) and a better engine IMO from all the testdrives I had. I'd happily say that I could get from A to B on a mix of roads as quickly in a 3.0Tdi Q A4 as I could in my old R32. I was THAT impressed........ Bollox, all this talk is making me think I should trade in for a 3.0Tdi Q and I've only had this one 5 weeks (and 3000 miles!)......... Overall, VERY impressed with the 2.0 Tdi though (FWB aside) and over 650 miles per tank on fast motorway driving (90%) and London crawling (10%) isn't bad in my books! In black, debadged the car gets almost as much attention as the M Coupe did! If you can afford it, I'd go for the 3.0Tdi, but I don't think you'd be disappointed with the 2.0Tdi either (this is the 'slowest' car I've owned in 5 years and I still love it!). Chav
Or wait for the new 4.2TDI to fizzle down across the range. That's an atomic sootchucker!
Frodo
In all honesty I would probably go for the 2.5TDi but it doesn't come with Quattro and after speaking with the better half we have agreed this something we are not prepared to compromise on. So the 3.0 TDi is looking like where I would start, just need to work out what I can afford. BTW has anyone got timings for 30-50 and 50-70?
