Girlfriend has just come back from our VW Dealer in Moenchengladbach and guess what was sitting on the forecourt... a nice new black Mk V R32! ooo.gif

As I didn't see it myself, I will pass you over and she can give you her first impressions...

Hi fellow R drivers,

Having seen many pictures of the new R we have been waiting to see it in the metal and as I saw the grill glinting at me out the corner of my eye today at the garage I couldn't resist a good gawp! cool.gif I have to say that it actually looks rather bland compared to the Mk IV. frown.gif Here are a few personal thoughts (purely objective of course!):

-The grill looks quite out of place although it was that that caught my eye. It seems to overshadow the whole car

-The Recaro seats looked a bit better in the flesh than I imagined but the interior was dull and quite old-man like.

-Twin pipes were a little bit better than I expected from seeing the F'furt pictures as they do actually jut out quite a bit, though they still look like an after thought.

-Wheels are quite nice but probably a nightmare to clean UHOH7.GIF

I deliberately made a point of looking at it from a distance and it did look pretty non-descript which is quite sad considering what a beast the Mk IV looks. I mentioned my thoughts about the new R to one of the service guys and compared it to ours, which was strategically parked outside his window, and he also agreed and being German I know that he wasn't just being polite about our motor!!

Overall - disappointing! frown.gif Although that comment is only on looks and maybe you shouldn't judge a book by its cover - I'll (and me ARG!) get a test drive 169144-ok.gif and report back.

All the best - girly R driver

I don't think anyone can tell until we see them in the flesh and read the road test reports and evenb better get to drive them! After all it IS the new model R32 and that can't be bad.

Was talking more about the look's!!! from what i have seen the mk v looks far to similar to the basic tdi and gti (apart from the twin exhaust at the back)

After seeing it in the metal, the best way I can descibe it is by comparing it to the 1996/7 911 change:

993 TurboS v 996 TurboS - the latter is more practical and most would say a better package but not as desirable.

Maybe VW should have badged this the Golf 3.2 (like Audi did with the new A3) and released the R32/36 a little later. Saying that it does look good and according to the salesperson - 'Sounds just like your MKIV' 169144-ok.gif And I should bloody well hope so for 42,000 Euro ooo.gif
