A8_Tony
OK guys, here's a nice simple one for you. If you were offered £16K to purchase a company car, that had 4 doors, upto 1 year old, and averaged over 40MPG. What would you go for? I've been having a look, and so far am looking at the following: Seat Leon, both old and new VW Golf VW Passat Skoda Octavia Skoda Superb I'm seriously looking at the Superb as a great option, as it would be possible to pick up the 130bhp car with very few miles, and most of the toys available today So c'mon guys, what's your thoughts/suggestions? A8_Tony
not for 16k otherwise it would be simple
A8_Tony
I take that back, just had a quick look at autotrader

shark_90
Hmm. I guess the A4/Avants will be fairly low spec compared to what you can get with the Superb for the same money. I think the Superbs look great
shao_khan
Shame it has to be less than 1yr old otherwise you could have my A4 and some change. (16 months old)
Chav
[ QUOTE ] must be less than 1 year old fella [/ QUOTE ] does O4 reg count? I'm sure after some proper searching you'll find one for 16K or less, or with a bit of haggling? e.g. getting close?...
A8_Tony
what's the official MPG on an a4/avant manual/auto?
runflat
The Octavia is a great car IMO, if you can get past the image. Well built and seriously good value.
A8_Tony
I have no problem purchasing a Skoda at all. I think they've come on in leaps and bounds over the past few years, and their build quality is very good. As for value, yup, you're not wrong. Superb with Sat nav and all the toys? £16k less than a year old with a 4 year warranty, and AA cover thrown in!!! Can't be bad

shark_90
I'm not sure of the exact official figures without looking them up (not in a position to do that at the mo) but my DIS regularly reads ~48 normal driving and ~55 motorway. And you know how I drive
A8_Tony
Hmmmm. I do like Audi But I suppose I could get the Superb chipped
Mollox
Or....have you considerd a bavarian foglighting machine? This one looks too good to be true with that mileage but i reckon a bit of hard bargaining could get it as close as damnit to the £16k price Disconnect indicators, hard-wire foglights

cruiser647
Hey Tony, a V6 TDi Superb or V6 TDi Passat should be do-able??? You cannot go from V8 purr, to a 4 cyl diesel clatter and survive. Go for a V6 diesel thrum - much nicer!
A8_Tony
Cruiser - that would be ok, if the MPG was good V6 Superb is 39mpg Passat would be the same - ish I know V8 to 4 cylinder, not a great choice As for the BMW, I'm not a fan of the shape of the cars, really not a fan. They may be great cars, but they really aren't my cup of tea
CarMad
What about the new Skoda Octavia RS. Its 17.5k new but you might be able to beat them down a bit. You will get the new 2.0 T FSI engine and good economy and if past examples are anything to go by it will handle well and have some great kit. Worth a look if the budget can be a little flexible or you can do a deal with the dealer.
shark_90
The V6 TDi's don't do 39mpg in the real world - 32ish in my experience. Same the with the 2.0T FSI figures.. I don't know where they got them from but the 2.0T FSI Q A4 I had for a day did ~23mpg :/
Mollox
2.0T FSI and 40mpg?????
danksy
I would give the 2.5 engines a miss, you'll get clobbered on the Benefit in Kind. Much better get the 130 1.9tdi, and a one-click type reversable tuning option IMHO. Passats are good value for money, and if you get the right one you get toys. Golfs are good fun, and you'd be surprised how well the 1.9Tdi pulls, especially when remapped, just as Bison.
CarMad
[ QUOTE ] 2.0T FSI and 40mpg????? [/ QUOTE ] I've had 39mpg on some motorway runs yep. It was only an idea. I just don't do diesel, unless its 4+ cylinders/
badbaz
Right then Bump, I've got the motor for you. Its a June 04(does it qualify) A4 saloon 1.9TDI sport in Mauritius blue, it has armrest, chrome in and out and Kraft alloys. Best of all it is chipped, done by Glasgow Audi at delivery and nursed in to life. It's done 22k, feels like new and is barely run in. The car is mint condition and returns easy 650 miles to a tank (not sure about the tank capacity). Roughly 170bhp, pulls well from low revs any gear very pleasing to drive - remember I came from a 320bhp S4 - the economy is mega and the power is more than adequate! So without any bullshit it's ready to go at £17000 - no risk of clocking here, coz it ain't on the forecourt The car looks fantastic when clean - it's raining just now - will take photo and post shortly! Anybody else is welcome too!! Cheers!
