DB6Vantage
I was at another stealer today, and drove both the DSG and the manual. Both cars 5 doors, in the same colour (laser blue), one with grey leather interior, one with standard interior. Have made up my mind on 3 points. Will order a manual car, standard interior, and not laser blue. There was a united grey car which looked very nice... I personally felt more comfortable using the manual box, I felt like being more in control of the car. The slight "hesitation" when accelerating from a red light put me off a bit. I switched from D to S while I was accelerating and I had the impression the engine was out of gear for an instant? Is that normal? Anyway, I didnt like that feeling either. When I first drove the GTi with DSG, I thought it was great. Still think so, but not in my car.
Simonl
did it have the paddles, they make a whole world of difference!
DB6Vantage
Yep it had the paddles. Fun to play with, but I always prefered using one hand instead of two... Manual for me!
Simonl
Well you do have mountain roads, not the M25 to play with!
DB6Vantage
Good point. Drove to the UK this summer, and found ALL roads very badly paved and maintained. The emergency lane on the M25 was like an autojumble, full of bits and pieces...had to stop to close the bonnet which opened on a huge bump. Im surprised I didn't take off. Fortunatelly I was luck with traffic and didnt get stuck with high temperatures in a 4 year old car!

[/ QUOTE ] I think I prefer it that way! Seriously drive round Germany this sumer int he new MkV and there were roudworks EVERYWHERE - I mean, literally, you were stuck in roadworks every 5 minutes - in towns, villages, on the autobahns, it was nuts. Think I prefer roads falling apart to that. More seroiusly, M25 is of course unrepresentative - level of traffic means that the road is given exceedingly heavy traffic and wear, plus chaos is caused if and when they do do repairs. I can think of several motorways up north that beat anything I found in Germany - M62 east of Leeds for example? Baby-arsed smooth tarmac, empty most of the time. Gorgeous. Course, M62 around Manchester is horrible narrow lanes of noisy tarmac and horrid traffic density. Bleuch, i'm never living near a big city again, its country roads for me!
