jhm1
Hi all, Recently bought a 2004 passat estate and am so far very pleased with it. I have been reading this site and noticed there is a lot of knowledge out there and that maybe someone might be able to help. I used to own an Avensis which completely ran out of oil , so I am now very wary of the oil level in my car. The only problem I have with the passat is that the bottom of the dipstick is black which does not make it very easy to read the oil level. Not being that great with cars I realise it maybe me who is the dipstick but does anyone have any tips for using it or even better still does anyone know of any replacements that I can buy which are not black! Many thanks, James
Mook
Welcome to Tyresmoke James I've never seen an aftermarket dipstick for the Passat, but as long as you take it out, wipe it clean before putting it back into the engine to check the oil level, you should be able to see the oil level fairly clearly. There should also be a cross hatched area about 20 to 30mm in length at the bottom of the dipstick - the lowest edge of this is the min. level. The top of this is the max. level.
