jimmyt180975
i have been looking at a R32 for sale but the seller says the warranty has run out as it was only a two year one. The car was registered in 22 May 2003 - is this correct. It was bought from new and i thought all new cars had a three year warranty Can you help please? Luke
Must be an import. The uk cars have 2 year vw warranty and 1 year dealer warranty = 3 years in total. Imports were 2 years

R32North
1st 2 years the Dealer will claim off VW, ie if you get a part replaced the will them send away to VW UK to get their money back, but in yaea 3 its the dealer who stumps up the cost. Gti_Fly
That still doesnt make sense. Why on earth would the dealer stump up the cost? surely someone would pay the dealer for doing the work in year3?

Gti_Fly
Somehow I reckon my dealer's are getting paid to work on my car, cause they just authorised 2 new cats, and 2 new radiator fans under warrenty!
Luke
I think this was a way of putting people off buying imports by VWUK. They were offering an extra year warranty for zero money making it a more sensible choice to buy a UK car. VW probably told them that would be down to them to fund and so thats why its classed as a dealer warranty in the 3rd year. Basically all they're doing is paying for a mechanical insurance policy for claims in that year.

Gti_Fly
Na my car's June 2003. Into it's final year now.. I was told the cats cost £800 + fitting, and the fans cost around £400 fitted! Got a seatbelt stork replacing too, as that's been bent outta shape. There's no way the dealer's stumping up for this work themselves
Luke
No questions about the mods?
Gti_Fly
Nope. The fans have failed not because of the mods, but because they are of a poor design, and fail regularly on ALL mk4's. They tend to last around 30k before shorting out.. Mine recently failed. I only knew about this problem after the guys on Uk-mrkivs.net started a thread saying there is a design fault, and that we should all check our fans just incase they are faulty, in which case get VW to replace them under warrenty! Cats: There has been a rattling noise from the underside of my car (between 1.5-2k revs) for the past 2000miles. The noise sounds like a loose heatshield rattling. (nothing serious, just a little annoying to hear a rattle). The VW garage I took it to diagnosed the noise to be coming from the Cat's heat shields.. I asked if the cat's where ok, and the technician said they were. But they wanted to replace the cats aswell, as (apparently) the heat shields are part of the cat(!?) I was thinking all they needed was tightening up... It sounded more like they wanted to fit new cats just for the sake of it, presumably to claim for a bigger wedge off of VW?? They didn't mention the mods at all. The parts are on order as we speak, The car will be in for fitting when they come in.
