It's a Renault Turbo 2,I love 'em! smlove2.gif

I think they were actually called Gordini in France(Like every other performance Renault was in those days).

It wasn't the monster that it looked though and only produced 160bhp from the 5 GT Turbo engine mounted behind the seats.

They did make a Turbo 1 in France that was used for rallying and that had well over 200bhp IIRC and a certain amount of success.

Nice spot! 169144-ok.gif

The Turbo 1 was built in very limited numbers, and had the interior out of the origional concept show car. The Turbo 2 was built in much greater numbers and had the dash from the normal R5 of the time.

As Jon said, the one in the pic is a Maxi, or is atleast a Turbo 2 with a Maxi kit on it. 200 road cars were built in this configuration for Group B purposes.

I remember my friend owning a Turbo 2 in the late 80's and come to think of it,I'm not sure it had those massive spots built into the front.Maybe visually that's what distinguished the 1/Maxi from the road going 2 version.

I do remember it only being 160bhp and him agreeing that the Strada Abarth I had at the time was as quick.
