david_d
I'm feeling a bit bored with my 8P A3 sport, I'm not planning on keeping it much longer, 6 months tops. But the question is, what do I buy next?. I like the fact that A3 is practical, sporty and has killer style. What else has that? I don't want to downgrade, which is hard given that the A3 is probably the premium car in it's sector. I really like the audi brand. I'm earning a bit more now and have been thinking I could stretch to a new RS4. What do you think, as a jump up from the A3? I think it looks amazing and the specs are awesome. I've never owned a saloon before, so at the moment the size is a concern, aswell as economy. I'll probably wait until I see some in the flesh before making a decision, it's alot of cash. M3s are ten a penny, I can't see the RS4s being so common? What are you guys planning on buying next? and how long do you plan to keep your A3s? The only other car I've been looking at is the RX-8 but sometimes I see then and just don't like the style that much.
Dave
An RS4 is hell of a step up. not only in performance, but also in costs.. Don't forget to build in the increase in insurance costs, fuel costs and running costs (i expect tyres to cost around £200 a pop). Don't get me wrong.. the car will be fantastic and it looks from early reports that it may handle with a bit more finesse than the RS6, but don't be taken in with just the retail price. They arn't cheap cars to own!.
david_d
Have you done some insurance quotes to see how much you'll be paying for yours?
Dave
No.. but i was paying around £1500 for my RS6.. I am 35 with a full no claims (10 years) and live in a fairly safe area. I'm in no way trying to put you off, and these cars look fantastic and the ownership experience is unbelievable. But when i was getting 14mpg on super, it can come as a bit of a shock! Simonl
Do you still want to retain the hatchback or can you do with 2 seats. I'd look at a fully specced GTI (Amazing car) or a new Boxster. Failing that, wait for the new TT, 3 series Coupe or Cayman... all due next year. david_d
Not sure I could live with two seats. I'd have to think more about it. I'm not interested in BMW, the cayman looks great but I'd rather hold out for a 911 Carrera. When is the new TT due? I bet it's not in customers hands until 2007 which is just too long a wait. A 911 has 4 seats but can anybody actually fit in the back?
Dave
911 is a fantastic piece of kit, but forget about the rear seats unless you have under 5's. Same goes for the TT. The nice thing about the RS4, as you said, is that there won't be too many around and it really is a stealth car. That's what i liked so much about my RS6. People who are into cars know exactly what it is and admire it. Those that don't don't give it a second glance and therefore it is safe in the cinema car park etc. They have a sporty look, without giving the game away. In your situation, looking for a 4 door, it sounds like the RS4 might be just up your street. Before I had my RS6 Avant, I had an S6 saloon, and out of the two cars, I actaully preferred the Saloon. Hence i have no qualms about having the RS4 in saloon.. I would have specced it anyway!
david_d
Getting my A3 into my garage is a hassle, so the size of the RS4 might be a problem. That's the only thing putting me off, the length. I might have to move house :-/ What optional extras do you add to your order btw? Looking at the list there isn't that much I'd add. You have to have Sat Nav on a 50k car, but what else? I like the understated aggression of the RS4, I actually loved the shots of the yellow car but if I were to order I would have either blue or red. Silver makes it look too much like a family saloon IMO Also, Do you know what seats belts they'll be in the front? I've read a couple of times that it uses racing harnesses. Does it? Everytime I see someone strapped into harnesses on UK roads they look stupid.
stevie_d
nope, normal seatbelts, have a look at the incar shots: www.audi.co.uk/newcars/galleryquicktime.jsp?section=/models/a4/rs4 Looks best in blue imho
Dave
This is my spec: Spec is: Missano Red DVD + TV GSM telephone Rear and window blinds RS4 Floor mats Heated seats Dimming rear mirror. Tracker Horizon Automatic opening boot. I have changed a couple of options, like the GSM in armrest as that deletes the sports steering wheel, with sports option. I also went for the technology pack, which gives a 6 cd changer. And of course.. I ordered it in red.
