hassle when buying a S8

So I used to drive Lexus LS400 - great luxury car, ultra refined, reliable, but want something with more power and good handling.

So I have been looking at S8s recently. I test drove a couple, wow, amazing is all I can say.

However, none of these cars have full service history. Yeah, they have stamps in a book which are meaningless to me without the invoices to back them up. I have called the Audi dealers each time to confirm when they serviced the car, but it's not the same as having a wad of invoices showing exactly what was done each service.

I've driven two R regs, one with 68k one with 91k. The 68k drove well, the 91k also drove well, but the rear tyres started screeching when going at 40mph round a roundabout. So, something wrong with that one. The 91k's history revealed in 2001, it had 9000 miles covered during 2 months in that year.

Plus, every car has mega stone chipped bonnet, even the 68k one.

Prices of S8s seem all over the place. The dealer is asking 12.5k for the 68k one, which I think is too high. I might go and see a 2001 51 model up for 15,990. History is with one dealer, which checks out and the cambelt has been changed 4 months ago. However, it's had 4 previous owners, and do you reckon the dealer might accept an offer of 14.5k for it?

Cheers.

Nope, under Data Protection Act, dealers can't give out invoices as that would mean giving out names and addresses of previous customers, which is against the law. In the States, you just take the VIN to any dealer and they printout the car's full service history. Customer service stinks here!

Phone Audi Customer Services, they are very helpful! They'll give you the VIN number, service history and factory spec over the phone! 0800 699 888

The have a system they call 'Dialogue'(?). They can print this for you. Any stealer can I think. Can contain all the warranty work and the servicing but may not have the servicing detail you req.

If the service booked is stamped by the dealer the appropriate service work should have been carried out. Also check in the additional work section of the service book.

I appreciate this cant always be relied upon but I would trust it especially if the garage will confirm a service took place.
