Chrisg
My Norton subsription ran out a couple of weeks ago. Should I renew? Is there something better? I also use AVG. Should I buy into AVG - ? I do not seem to have too many problems -- 2 trojans in 5 years both in the last six months though!
Dave
There are two main camps.. Norton and Mcafee. I've never liked Norton.. I find it too intrusive, but others sware by it. I prefer Mcafee, which tends to sit happily in the background, but does it's job well when it has to. And no, I wouldn't be without a firewall, virus guard or spam filter. The GriSoft guys make a good A/V product, and there are several good cheap (free) firewall products for PCs too - like Zonealarm.
CarMad
Get AVG for free as your Anti-Virus tool I have used it myself and its great updates regularly and scans quickly. For your firewall download Zonealarms. Again its free its easy to use and always does consistently well in all the tests. Oh and when I say free its free for home users business should put their hands in their pockets and pay up. And on an anti spyware side of things a new tool has just come top in a very extensive review and thats PC Tools Spyware Doctor 3.2 It beat both Ad-aware and Spybot and stopped more getting in than any other in the first place. Zonealarms is used in many very large Corporates so don't worry about not paying for it. Just take advantage of it. AVG is the same, they are just letting the home user take advantage of what they have developed for business. Your ISP makes no difference what so ever to what tools you choose. Download them both, enjoy and buy yourself a pint with the savings.
pingpongpo
I use Mcafee virusscan and firewall. Had the same version for about 5 years now. It runs out after a year but I just do a clean install, clear out all the registry etc and bobs ya uncle. I just have to make sure I have the latest updates on cd before I format so I can put them once the thing is loaded otherwise it prompts me to pay for the latest version. Don't see why I should if I paid in the first place.
GCab
I just use AVG; I don't mind paying but I hate the whole palaver of having to re-subscribe every year, bloody reminders all the time, and general nagging that you get with the others.
