Booster
Ah, a Tamiya enthusiast! Have you seen the price of the "proper" radio controlled cars from the 80's / early 90's on Ebay I wish I'd have held on to my old Graashopper, Thunder Dragon and Midnight Pumpkin!! rjgreen4
Used to be sponsored by Team Losi, Trinity, Mtroniks and Schumacher. Raced at international level and had a Losi XX as the 2wd and CAT 2000 as the 4wd. I used to race in the northwest against the now 2wd world champion - Neil Cragg. Now I wish I held on to my stuff as I had 15 packs of SCRC Factory matched cells, 11 motors (mostly trinity) and shed loads of spares and tyres. I finished racing in 1997 when I found my third legg and the fun you could have with booze!!!! Oh and a university education
Ian_C
Me a Tamiya fan too! Dad gave my brother and I matching 'Hornets' for Christmas when we were about 8 after spending many evenings secretly building them whilst we were asleep! Bought a 'Pilot' liveried Escort Cosworth WRC (in 1996ish), but in a rather strange incident a few years later it was stolen. Replaced it with the next generation TA02 chassis 'Repsol' Cosworth. Proceeded to pour all my pocket money into it - roll bars, bearings, aluminium parts (over resin), a carbon prop shaft, rally skid guard (to save the front splitter) plus many sets of wheels & tyres - slicks, grooved, rally block and sponge compound. A motor upgrade also meant I put the stock motor that came with the Cosworth kit into the Hornet which flew afterwards!! Although I have not use them for years (when 18 before I went to Uni iirc) I kept them: My hornet, a little battle scared, but running fine last time I used it. My brothers substantially less used example, pretty much unmodified, although a non runner I think? Also bought a spare hornet chassis 'just in case' including some suspension parts. A big old 'Super Sabre' 4wd buggy that was donated to me later on. Finally, my Cosworth. Here it is on a set of retro fitted OZ Superturismo's that the very last of the line Escort Cosworth WRCs had. Sorry for the incredibly 'jpegged' image - very old photo scanned into pc many moons ago PS: Never fitted the doormirrors as if - read when - you roll the car, they risk ripping the lexan shell if fitted.
