FuntimeFrankie
Its not due for a while yet, but I'll probably get the cam belt change done around the 70k mile mark. There is a small service centre in Newbury, who I have to admit has always impressed me when girlfriend has taken her cars there, they are professional, clean, courteous and reasonable. They have quoted me £560 for the cam belt change on my 2000 plate A8, and that include the parts straight from Audi, I think this is a VERY good price. So what's the general consensus, should I have this job done only at Audi, or have it done independently? (I'll still have the servicing done at Audi, to keep the stamps in the book)
Hopsta
There is no reason for you to have it done at Audi IMO, now the block exemption has come in all they need to do is use genuine parts and it will still be covered.
Botang
A guide on changing the A8 cambelt is available from PaulW's Audipages webstie. You may want to follow the advice of changing the water pump and cambelt tensioners at the same time.
Kell
What's the difference in cost between your Audi garage quote and the independent?
neo283
My father had the cambelt changed on his A6 at a non-Audi garage. Think he saved himself about £350 and they did the exact same job, including tensioners - and then a full valet for nothing. My A3 will be going to the same establishment in 14,000 miles time. neo283
Handy! £580 and they can't even do a proper job. Think thats the final nail in the coffin for me with regards to repairs from the stealers. Not that it ever needed one!
