From the November edition of CAR Magazine, which has the comparison between the new Golf R32, BMW 130 M Sport and 2006 Impreza STI.

If this is the way the 1 series saloon is really going, then BMW are back on track.

I can understand the M5 as they were all 5 series given to M Division, but the original M1 had nothing to do with the current 1 series so it's a little odd to call it the same. In 20 years people will be saying what did you drive, someone says an M1 and the other person thinks iconic 2 seater sports car until the other person takes out photos of a souped up over priced supermini.
