Mollox
When joining the M4 (westbound) from the M25, Tom Tom recently flagged the first gantry after you join from the slip road as being a camera location? Does anyone know if this is true?
Mook
I always look at the gantry whenever I go along the other way and I can't see any cameras, but they are getting wiser with small cameras. Hopefully the answer is no. I have a different detector and it trips as well. Hope you didn't get clipped Mollox
CabGirl
I've got an MRP and it picks it up but I couldn't see a camera last time I looked.
Smudge
I've seen a mobile camera located there before. White Van, tripod and all that. I was hitting over 90 at the time, but never received an NIP, and that was back in June iirc. Might be a slightly different location though. Mook
[ QUOTE ] I was hitting over 90 at the time [/ QUOTE ] As that would have been 90 km/h Smudge, that wouldn't have been a problem. You'd have to be doing over 70 mph to get clipped...
Smudge
Ah, hence my clean license.
hotdog
There were cameras on that particular gantry, but when I trundled under it last week they had been removed. Its the scamera vans on the bridges over the M4 around the Swindon area you have to worry about

Does anyone know if this is true? [/ QUOTE ] Yes! On the three occasions I have been to Windsor with Matt in his A8, he always takes it steady down the M4 and around the M25. As cruising Motorways is his job, I would certainly trust his judgement on this: Perhaps send him a pm? Ian
Chrisg
My Morpheus is triggered there as well. It may be linked into the M25 variable speed cameras
JamesB
I take the M4 out of London frequently and have even been known to do so at speed. I've never noticed any gantry cameras and check pretty much every time. I have of course fallen for the J14 - 18 propaganda and take it easy there but, funnily enough, have never seen any police presence on that stretch either. DHA
They were installing some cameras on the M4 from the M25 to about junction 7. They were testing them so they were all set to trigger at 40mph. This was about 6 months ago so they might be active. Rumours of variable speed limit to be introduced on the M4 soon as well. 5to1
You would think the time and money would be better spent putting up lights on the rest of the M4. But what am I saying. That would only save lives, not generate revenue aswell.
Smudge
In theory, you could be wrong. Did you know it costs on approx £1 million to investigate / deal with the average road death (source family member in Traffic Police).
danksy
But statistically Motorways are the safest roads in the country
