davherd
Hiya everyone this is my first post here, so hello to all! I have a UK Audi A6 (V reg, 2000) 1.8T been going great for months with no problems until we had a recent bout of very heavy rain that lasted a few days without stopping. Now my alarm went off intially but I reset that by taking off the battery but now after reconnecting it I cannot get the hazard light/indicators to go out, they just remain constantly on, no flashing or anything. I have taken out the fuse to save my battery, but I cannot drive the car and am due to go on holiday in it tommorrow! I have tired drying the car out and am contemplating covering everything with WD40 but any suggestions are welcome. Thank you folks.
shark_90
Sounds like something to do with your alarm/immobiliser has got fecked in the downpour mate. I'm sorry to say it, but I doubt you'll be going on holiday in it tomorrow! Ring Audi, quickly. And welcome to TSN
felixthecat1
Is there nothing in the Owners Manual? It might be as well to get it to a dealer asap and they can stick it on the computer. Explain the situation, they should be understanding. Good luck and welcome to TSN
steve2
mine did this two months ago, my alarm kept going off after heavy rain, although the hazards did not keep flashing. RAC man came out and found water in the connecting block on the boot lock, it is apparantly a regular fault, I ended up with a replacement alarm though, hope this ghelps
charlie61
I'd take it to an auto electrician rather than audi, at least he'll have an idea where to start looking if the computer doesn't tell him how to fix it.
davherd
Thanks everyone, I tried firing WD40 into all of the locks and connectors, etc. but no joy. It is booked into with Audi for mid next week. PS: The holiday got postponed until next weekend. If Audi do not fix it then an auto electrician it will be . . . davherd
Follow-up for those interested. It was water in my ECU (which is under the passenger floor carpet), there was about an inch of water in there!!! The ECU was quite corroded and not cheap . . . 200 GBP from the dealership, plus fitting :-( It llok like the drains below the battery and servo were blocked and wehn we had the continual rain, the water just built up until it overflowed into the cabin, but from what Ive read elsewhere there seem to be many places where the water might come in. Needs keeping a clsoe eye on. Thanks for everyones help with that.
Soundwave
Thank you for the follow-up. It's great when someone tells us what was wrong in the end rather than just ask questions and then just disappear without a trace, especially when their post count is low or 1. One more piece of helpful information for us folks to digest and be aware of in future.
stratty31
is the a6 an avant?.....there is an issue with the rear washer pipe leaking into the passenger footwell and flooding the central locking ecu...for your information a4 has a similar control unit in the same place, and can suffer from the same problems..but it's the pollon filter that lets the water in on those!!
