Mikiew
If anyone is interested there is a Silver GTI import in Wakefield at simpledeal.co.uk - imported from Netherlands. I went to have a spy earlier today as it rolled off the lorry. No options but at £18,499 it looks like a good deal if anyone wants one straight away. dazdot
There is a black one with leather for sale (brand new £23,995) at Lakeside VW in Stoke on Trent.
mu71rd
be slightly careful with cars imported from somewhere other than Germany. Several companies bring in cars from either Denmark or Malta and they ARE different spec to the UK cars from Germany. For example, I know that all Danish cars have cruise as standard (which obviously might not be a bad thing!). When I was investigating options, I didn't get a straight answer as to whether Maltese cars come with an alarm as standard!
nutkins
I don't think there's too much to worry about - most of the importers I've talked to are reputable, and the spec that differers from the UK they add on as options beforhand to bring it up to spec, and it still works out cheaper. I went and saw one in Cardiff and that was from Malta. Definitly had the full open/closure alarm and the same key type as a UK car. I didn't go for it in the end as it was totally standard with no options. But I'm definitly buying an import. They're from the same factory at the end of the day, and as long as you get the spec in writing beforehand, you're covered.
Mikiew
I agree about the spec differences. At least with this particular dealer you can go and see the physical car and check the spec completely before you buy.
mu71rd
exactly. I have an import on order, which should arrive in about 4 weeks! Everyone has their own opinion on this, but it's difficult to argue with a car that's made by the same people in the same factory, for thousands less. only issue I'm worried about is the lack of 'dealer' back up with the little issues. but when you've several thousand in your pocket, you're in a good starting position. nutkins
Not sure who you're ordering from mu71rd - but if it makes you feel better, I was talking to euroimports today and he has a 2nd hand car he is going to sell as it's had its engine replaced. The guy who brought the car rejected it and is getting another from the European dealer. I bet it was probably easier rejecting it than through a UK stealer! And of course the dealers in the UK claim off the manufactuer for any work they do, so any talk of them not wanting to look at you car is rubbish. As far as I'm concern the only difference other than the 3rd year warranty, which you can buy quite cheaply anyway, is the stamp of the supplying dealer. With every UK car I've brought, even new ones, I've had any niggles done by a different dealer - so the car may as well have been an import. mu71rd
great - that's good to hear. It's kind of what I assumed. I ordered through select automotive, mainly because theyh offer such great discounts on extras (dsg for ~ £600). I did speak to Richard at Euroimports as well, but in the end select were quicker at returning calls and emails, so they got my money!
nutkins
What was the lead time from your order date with select?
silentandy
How have you found dealing with Select. I think if I do change my car I will be ordering from them. I've found Shaun more than helpful with my queries to the extent of getting me third party quotes for the third year of warranty. Just wondered how the whole ordering process has gone? mu71rd
Select are pretty good I reckon. I was quoted 10-12 weeks (and it looks like being more like 12). I've had regular comms with Shaun as well as their german counterpart (oliver) throughout. Shaun's a nice bloke too, which helps, and has offered to let me take out their R32 when it arrives. The crazy thing is their optional extras price list. If you're getting a highly specced car - go to select. I'm not exaggerating when I say that many of the most popular extras come in at between 40-60% less than list price. no idea why. Is the only reason I went for the sound pack (£350 I think instead of around £800ish?).
nutkins
Interesting - I've always been able to get hold of Richard even in the evenings. As yet, select haven't replied to my Emails and on the phone I've only got as far as a guy who only takes messages. The options prices are amazing though you're right - you can really spec all the toys :-)
Woppum
There are some on here for just over 17k!!! I bought my R through this company, the car was late (VW's fault) but they were very good.

Inzaghi
I'm hopefully picking up from select in about two weeks. So will post a review. There are a couple of old threads with good constructive comment. I'd advise just having a chat to as many people as possible. Ignore the salesmen chat (as that's what they all are) and then decided on what feels best to you. Luckily picking mine up will mean a 500 mile trip home so that's a good proportion of the run-in miles already completed.

[/ QUOTE ] the dsg doesnt interest me at all. having been on the TT forum for 3 years i have heard enough scare stories and glitch complaints about the dsg box. i had a go in one of the first ones to come out 3 years ago and wasnt impressed. if you like the auto thing then its a shed load better for you i suppose
