Starkitten
I bought my MK5 golf in march of this year. In july it began to lose power. I took it back and they changed the air mass meter stating that this was the cause of my fault. I have had to take it back again today for the same thing and they said that they couldn't find a fault. The electric windows have developed a mind of their own and do whatever the hell they want. Also, at only 6 months old, the air conditioning is very smelly indeed, and loses a lot of water! They are trying to get me to pay £90 for a bacteria service sating that it's not a fault with the car, but a standard problem. Can anyone help? Should my air con be covered by the warranty? Starting to wish I hadn't bought it. They treated me like royalty when I was buying, now they don't give a toss!

Rustynuts
What do you mean when you say "the air conditioning is very smelly indeed, and loses a lot of water. Do you have to top up the coolant reservoir at any point, or is it the refrigerant you mean?
pingpongpo
I would imagine it depends on how you use your air-con. Mine is on 'auto' all the time regardless of conditions so i'm confident that it is being run regulary. I think air-con suffers from not being used regularly or even if you have it set to recirculating to often, this can cause problems especially if you smoke because this gets drawn in and flows across the filters. Although I would imagine that after only 6 months this sounds like something else.
mulkbear
* Is the golf a FSI engine ? *To get rid of the smell try frote air con treatment (i think halfords sell it around £20) * Loss of water ? do you mean there is a puddle under you car after you have drove it or dripping ? or topping up you anti freeze ?
