scooby_simon
Chaps I'm trying to install a PHP environment on my PC (XP) and it's complaining that it thinks there is another web werver installed on the PC that is using Port 80. I've not installed anything that I can think of; any way I can find out everything that is using Port 80? I've tried dis-abling Zonealarm (which is one of the culprits according to the FAQ) but no go.
John32
Sounds like it may be IIS, goto a command prompt and type telnet localhost 80 You may then need to press return a couple of time and you should get an error message

John32
Or a couple of utils available for this sort of thing try here or at the command prompt type netstat -a -b from this you should be able to find the PID of the process using port 80, then task manager to find out what process it is. Hope this helps

scooby_simon
John, Excellment; Would things like Skype / MS Messenger use Port 80 ?
John32
Simon MSN does not, do not have any direct experience of Skype - but don't see why a voip application would need to be a web server. Have you found what's using port 80?

Chris_B
[ QUOTE ] I've just written my first PHP program [/ QUOTE ] I quite like PHP; you can be sloppy and procedural, or tidy and object-oriented as you wish, and it all works. BTW, another way of seeing what process uses what port is to run either fport or tcpview.

Thorburn
Normally when I do a first test program it doesn't say "Hello World!", normally it say compiler error
s4dreamer
PHP is interpreted, so you shouldn't see "compiler error", but I'm betting Simon will have his fair share of 'parse error at line: xxx' over the next few weeks
Frodo
I always getting syntax errors, but I put that down to the fact that I can't type. Oh and I never use Option Explicit
