CraigR
Just watched the ad on tv, the car looks terrible and the "French car, British designers " does not do the British car design workforce any favours

Ian_C
The 1.4 petrol Quiksilver was lame but the 2.0 HDi is a proper sleeper! Why you sell it? I mean, would you recommend one - it or a D turbo / later model HDi Sport? Been born and bred on French cars myself. Dad went to the darkside in 1989 when he started commuting - hence he went French. Currently using a 97 AX during the rare occasions I need a car, but will be buying something like a Xantia HDi / 406 HDi Estate in a year or two - need a big boot to assist house renovation. So much car for the money. Ian

simonb
Ian, I sold it for the GTI 180. The GTI was pants. 2.0 HDI much better. I had the 106 zest and loved the handling. That's why i bought the GTI. The GTI was good but i was doing a lot of miles and was driving some very torquey company cars. I should've really bought the Quiksilver @ this point but i was very much into my fast pugs now as an active member of the PSOOC and found a nice GTI 180 for sale not long after they were launched. I bought it. It was ok - looked good and had a nice cabin. Handled ok too but just lacking a turbo. Anyway, the miles got more and more and petrol wasn't getting any cheaper - so 6 months later - time for a change - proved an expensive move! Then bought the 206 Quiksilver. It was based on the D Turbo. I test drove the D Turbo and it was great - just what i wanted. I ordered the Quikky and specified the 16" nimrod wheels off the GTI 138. I work for a construction company and would've liked the 180 wheels but 17s take a lot of battering with high miles tyres are dearer. The Quikky was great - loved it to bits - great handling and plenty of torque - i stuck a Superchip on it which took me to about 125 bhp on the rolling road. I also, which is rare, liked the driving position - no problems with it at all. Then, Aug 04, was looking at a new house and stuff and the car had to go. Work offered me a car and it was either a Corolla, Picasso, Megane, Golf 2.0 SDI (without AC!!) or crap model Bora, 307 - went for the 307 and with a house move in the very near future - went for the estate. Has been great. More power still. Yes though Ian, i would recommend the 206. It was based on the D Turbo my model, but i believe the new Sport is based on the 1.6 110 HDI engine out of my 307 which is an excellent unit! Let me know if you need a cheap Pug - i have a contact!! So - if it was registered in 1998 - what date is on the V5? If 1998 on the V5, surely it should be an R or S plate? If it's a H reg, shouldn't the V5 be like 1990 or 91? Looks a good buy though - the car that's spawned many other fast Clios since. Williams, 172, 182, cup, trophy (saw a trophy last night - very quick indeed!), V6s. Rare to see a 16v with original wheels. Have you tried Renault Sports Club?

simonb
I'm sure it'll go to a good home at that price. The D Turbos still make too much used to consider at the moment, with early high milers still making for 3k. Many in the trade have had their alloys removed, and there are sooooo many HDi Lx's advertised as D Turbos - very annoying. When the 207 is out though, I think the 206 D turbo might be a good car to replace the AX with. Does your contact include older high mileage stuff? Something like an April 99 facelift 406 Estate HDi 110 GLX would suit me fine. Needs to be cheap as I will be buying the car and insuring it at the same time as first house purchase. Currently have dads Xantia HDi 90 and my brothers best mates dads (sounds like a long link but close enough to know the car is mint) 406 Estate HDi 110 Exec (China blue with black leather) both lined up as potentials. A good two years away I'm afraid, but cheers for the mention anyway, something for me to remember! Ian
simonb
ok mate - no probs - just give me a shout if you're ever after a Pug - old or new - i will speak to my mate for you. Bad news about having to get a house mate. This is what you could have - stay at home mate!! ---> This is my Quikky on the day i picked it up - 1st September 2003 - i remember it like it was yesterday. Yeah I know what you're saying. £800 on some dog tu*d now and another £1500 on the gearbox - head gasket and or snapped timing belt. Then we'll see if it's over priced. NeilB
I've got a Pug 106 and it's great! Goes round corners well and it's ecomomical. Only gripe is the orange airbag connector under the seat is a pain in the arse, along with the fact the Diesel unit really could do with a turbo on it. Snail
I had 3 106s (diesel, XSi, GTi), fantastic little cars, but the reliability isn't great Still miss my GTi, even though its completely inappropriate for doing 100 miles a day, i still wish i had her again. simonb
Same as me Snail. 500 miles a week wasn't great. Then i bought the GTI 180! Stupid boy that i am. Or was. I never had a problem with any of them! Only thing was a cracked windscreen on the quiksilver. That was because of aggressive driving up the arse of a Sprinter van on the M65 in bad weather - bit of grit - BANG! Doh!!
