david_d
Hoping to get a new car in the comming months. Currently considering ordering either a brand new Audi RS4, or picking up a low mileage M3. I'm going to book a test drive in an M3 next week. Any thoughts? The RS4 will end up costing around £54k new, whilst I could get a 04>05 M3 for £35-38k, quite a considerable difference considering the cars are more or less in the same league. The insurance on the M3 works out a good few hundred quid higher when I ran some quotes which I'd have to factor in aswell. I've never actually been a big BMW fan but just recently the looks of the M3 alone have got me interested. However, a few things are holding me back a bit. The fact there's a new model not too far away is one major downside, even though it may well be over a year away. The other being M3's aren't too exclusive, whereas the RS4 I imagine would be for quite a while. Especially given the price.
John_Doe
Hi David, I had the same train of thought earlier in the year and I test drove a very nice fully loaded M3 coupe prior to me testing the Noggy S4 which I currently have. To be quite honest it was a close race, the M3 offered raw knicker wetting seat of the pants driving and the S4 offered me slightly rounder edges of what the M3 offered....I chose the S4 and I have never regretted it, however the M3 is a superb car and your budget will get you a beauty believe me. I think given the delays waiting for the RS4 to arrive and also that the car will not be built in limited numbers it will be exclusive in ways that the M3 CSL and CS are too.......I am also going to have a look at the RS4 when it arrives in the hopes of maybe upgrading next year. You will not be dissapointed in the M3 should you go that route and there are plenty of Beemer officianados here to add credance to that...good luck
Brabus
Get the CSL, less common than the M3, looks more modern and will keep its value too. More raw and less refined than the M3 though! If you asked me purely on the M3 vs RS4 at this point in time I'd probably go for the RS4.

[/ QUOTE ] I'd agree with that, perhaps also rather suprisingly. CSL ahead of both of the other cars though, and by a long way. The budget mentioned would get a nice one too, easily - and you'll not suffer anything like the depreciation standard M3's will now or in the future. The damage has already been done.
