Audi specific engine oil

Sorry but I just don't believe it would void the warranty, I guess they would say that as Castrol went to the trouble of developing it for the VW group. Its not exactly easy oil to find, I have only found it at some BP garages and Halfords.

Another case of dealer talking dung.gif, won't be long before they recommend a bottle of screen wash saying nine out of ten bugs get cleared more quickly with this Audi recommended screen wash , blah, blah, blah coffee.gif

Your dealer is out of touch. The correct specification oil for the longlife service interval engines is now VW 507.00. However, this has only recently changed from 506.01 and the oil is the same, but re-branded to the new spec.

Any oil to VW 506.01 or the new 507.00 will suffice, and will not invalidate your warranty. The Castrol oil is just the preferred blend that the dealers sell.

I used Fuchs Titan Supersyn 0w 30 in my old PD130, which complies with the specification. It's available to mail order from www.opieoils.co.uk

Hope this helps.

Edit: Using any oil which does not meet the specification will cause upper valve train damage in a PD TDI engine due to high stresses and shear factors in the cam driven injector system. This is why the warranty would be invalidated.

Sponge, the 1 litre bottle will probably last you until your first service.

My 1.9 Tdi used about 2/3 of a litre in 2 years (16,000 mile) before the first service. After the service they'll give you whatever is left from the bottles they use so you'll end up with another (part filled) bottle 169144-ok.gif

Mine has taken all of the free bottle the car came with, and I've now put almost all of a replacement bottle in too. I bought some expensive castrol, but the car came with some very expensive looking Shell stuff. The car has done 15,000 miles and hasn't yet had it's first service (due in 1200 miles).

I'm now wondering if mine is consuming too much oil. How can you tell?

You may well be right. He said they could tell what oil had been used to top it up. smashfreakB.gif

LOL! He's been watching too much CSI! yelrotflmao.gif

Like Rustynuts says just check the VAG Spec in the handbook and you can't go wrong. Those numbers are all that matters not what make is on the front.

Also as said, fingers crossed - you wont need to buy any more oil before your next service.

Comma oils do most of the VAG spec oils including 503.00 and 503.01 for the longlife petrols (not sure about exact diesel specs). They are available from most good independent car spares shops and well priced too 169144-ok.gif

Rumour has it you drive yours like you stole it though whereas I am a more leisurely Sunday afternoon type driver. SMOKE6.GIF

The salesman told me when I picked it up there was no "normal" oil consumption for my car crazy.gif

He said to expect it to use anything from half a litre to 2 litres in the first year. As it is, it used about 400ml in the first year (8,500 miles) and then very little in the second year (up to 16,000).

It's now on 22,000 and the oil level has hardly moved on the dipstick since it was serviced 6 months ago and the engine is definitely loosening up now.

I don't think your engine's oil consumption is excessive or a problem Sparky 169144-ok.gif

Come on now, Milo. Don't put yourself down like that.

My Bora consumed a litre everytime I drove it. Started getting very expensive. The garage told me "some do, some don't" when I asked him if engines should use that much oil.

When I sold it to Audi, I forgot to remove the 14 1-litre bottles from the boot (was keeping them as evidence to VW since they were being funny). blush.gif

SPonge - tell your stealer he is a fecker!

I'd like to see him prove you topped up four of five litres of oil with 250mL of something different!

As a trained chemist, even I couldn't do that - if he can, he deserves a nobel prize for creative chemistry!

Always read the technical data in your handbook to check the specific oil requirement for your engine and top up with oil to the correct VW compliance number. You'll need to read the small print on the canister to find it. There's currently no alternative to Castrol SLX LongLife II for AVS-programmed Pump Düse TDI-engined cars, but alternative oil brands can be used for other models so long as they comply with the appropriate VW specifications.

[/ QUOTE ]

Don't be fooled by the name of 'Longlife II' it's NOT for all engines. Always check your handbook first.

Nice link TB
