tonymac
Anybody thinking about extended their Warranty's...read on. I have attached the extended warranty details I asked for from VW through their extended warranty provider called "Mondial Assistance UK Ltd". They are the approved Warranty provider from VW. Contrary to my earlier comments about the warranty being "crap" are untrue, I miss-read the small print on VW’s homepage and quoted them as only providing a maximum of cover £1,000 per claim (this is however for vehicles with over 100,000miles or that are over 4 years old when the warranty is taken out. Sorry!!! Mondials Benefits include: Virtually all factory-fitted mechanical and electrical components of your car covered against failure. As you would expect, items such as batteries, trim and service related items are not included in the cover. Parts and labour costs can both be claimed for and there is no mileage limit while the warranty is in place. No limit to the number or value of claims that can made, up to the purchase price paid for your car. The quoted cost for vehicles over 2001cc is £835 p/y At the end of 2004, I was quoted directly by VW approx £530 per 12 months warranty and approx £780 for 24 months, I spoke to VW customer services asking why their prices had gone up so much since I first enquired about extended my warranty, and why they no longer offer them directly (apparently this changed at the beginning of 2005) they said that they cannot offer Warranty’s directly from themselves anymore because VW are not registered to sell them as they are not approved to do so by the Financial Services Authority regulations, VW have applied to sell them but are awaiting approval to do so, I thought this was a bit strange as they offer vehicle finance but there you go. I have attached some info below. Hope you find the info useful… Tony Mac. <font color="blue"> Mondial All Component Warranty Dear Sir/Madam Mondial UK administer various warranty products for Volkswagen (UK) including the Volkswagen Approved Warranties provided upon sale of Volkswagen Approved Used Cars. Skidmark
I am just dealing with Mondial at present. They have posted me the contract so I can go thro' the small print...but it sounded good over the phone. I will probably go with it @ £835 to take it thro' to 100k I am getting near to 60k and the car has just past 2 years old. I didn't get very far with on-line quotes due to the engine size (?)....most stopped at 2.5 or 3.0. cheers
Pincher
I've mentioned this before, but I'll say it again. It might seem expensive, but not in comparison when you think about labour charges at £100-odd per hour. Also, Mondial are owned by Allianz, so you can be pretty sure that they are not going to disappear in a hurry. Re: the FSA authorisation - you can read that as VW cocked it up big time!! dubzter
with this warranty would you have to pay first then claim back or would VW deal direct with Mondial?
robin09
A quickie regarding the FSA regulations, the reason they can't sell a warranty is due to it being an insurance product. However Motor Finance is not an insurance product so is not covered. They cant sell add ons like payment protection though, as that is to 'insure' you should you not be able to continue your repayments. How boring. Smudge
I think you may be wrong there. I'm fairly sure I have been offered payment protection by VWFS, but I would stand corrected. Same goes for GAP surely?
Mook
VW Financial Services are covered by the FSA, hence they can offer finance, payment protection, GAP insurance etc. - VW UK (or one of their subsidiary companies which provides the warranty) aren't, if that makes sense. robin09
Smudge where you offered Payment Protection and Gap before April this year? Cos if so that was before the new regulations came into play. (I think that was roughly the date but dont quote me on it.)
Smudge
I'm not sure as this was right around that time, March / April. But as Mook says, VWFS . . . . .
tonymac
[ QUOTE ] with this warranty would you have to pay first then claim back or would VW deal direct with Mondial? [/ QUOTE ] (from Mondials policy summary) 7. What to do if you have a claim Should a problem arise, we recommend that you contact your nearest authorised Volkswagen Centre or authorised repairer who will handle any necessary claim on your behalf. Alternatively, most VAT-registered garages will be happy to handle a claim on your behalf. If you are at all unsure where to take your vehicle, please call us on 0845 641 9798. It is your responsibility to authorise any investigation work necessary and you will be responsible for that cost if the repair is not covered by the warranty. I guess that means yes... Tony Mac. Mook
[ QUOTE ] I guess that means yes... [/ QUOTE ] It means that you only pay if, after the investigation work, the dealer finds the fault to be non-warranty. If it is a warranty issue and is covered, the warranty company will settle directly with the garage - you'll only be liable to pay for any extras not covered, like fluids etc. Next time you go into your main dealer for a service, you'll notice you have to sign a form saying that you're happy(!) for them to do the work and that you'll pay for it. The same applies for investigation work, because the dealer needs to cover themselves before paying their expensive techs...
jimmyt180975
This is £835 per year then? A fair bit of money - has anyone tried to negociate a two year deal? Has anyone got an email address for this company?
jimmyt180975
Anyone tried warranty direct for a quote? I dont think they have a low limit against the maximum claim you can make and no limit on labour charges?

Skidmark
Just renewed it for 12 months for £835. I asked about a 2 year deal, no go as it is a '12 month insurance policy'. When we talked about a reminder to renew after 12 months, they said it would 'probably be back with VW by then' when they have sorted out thier problems (?). I asked a few specific questions about what was covered as it was not clear from the small print. The 4WD system is covered [only engine & gearbox in print] The coil packs are covered [wiring & conections excluded (including HT leads)] The VW data base is updated against the car registation number...so should be ok at the dealers. time will tell..
