Jenny
When I'm in my golf and lock the doors with the internal button, the passenger door locks, but immediately unlocks. It locks normally from outside using the fob. Any ideas?
guner2980
are you sure the door was shut when you try and what year 3door or 5 door you should read the first post before it does HELP
hotdog
If you try locking it again using the internal button does it lock OK? It sounds like the central locking module could be playing up. How old is the car? its definitely something that needs looking at. If its still under warranty ask your dealer to enable the auto lock. jonboy3020
'normally' the solenoids seize (can be unseized with a vice, lol) or the door latch goes up the swanny, while you have the door card off, pull the multi plug off the door control unit (normally next to the window motor) and make sure no water has got in there (another failure point)
M8CKN
[ QUOTE ] ask your dealer to enable the auto lock. [/ QUOTE ] I have exactly the same problem on my 2000 Passat. Will my car have autolock? I presume this is exactly what it sounds like, and will lock the car once the engine is started
hotdog
The auto lock feature will lock all doors when the car goes over 10mph and they will stay locked until you manually open them. I would of thought that you would be able to enable this feature on your Passat. You'd need VAG-COM to do it though. Might be worth a call to a VW dealer or specialist just to check
micko2602
Common problem on the Mk4 golf with the central locking modules playing up. Sound very much like the symtoms of a damaged module.
Shorty
I have the same problem as Jenny on my 1999 MK4 Golf, but when you go to lock the passenger side sometimes thats all it does, and leaves the rest of the doors unlocked.
micko2602
Not sure if it is related as its a while sinse I had my MK4 and I had this very same problem, but if i remeber does the rear washer hose not become detached and end up covering the hatch locking mech with water? I'm sure this can have knock on electrical effects. May be wrong, but you never know. As i mentioned I had this problem and it was a new cetral locking mech for passenger door, luckily under warranty.
harminder
[ QUOTE ] Common problem on the Mk4 golf with the central locking modules playing up. Sound very much like the symtoms of a damaged module. [/ QUOTE ] Got a similiar problem with my golf but its getting to the stage where the passenger door does not always open with key fob.... the lock stalk pops up and then pops back down Also I have noticed that the passenger side door stalk only pops up half way in the open position....not sure if that is related? Anyone know how much these modules cost to repair then?
harminder
If the little stalk thing (that pops up and down in the door to show if the is door open/locked) only comes up half way when the door is open then could something else be wrong like a spring? Its annoying because now if I lock the doors the passenger side stalks pops down and then half way up so the car door is actually open when the rest of the car door is locked.. Means I am constantly walking round the car to check the door as I leave the car

meriafel
Brilliant posting and what a fantastic informative site. We seam to lack members willing or able to document a problem and take the time to add the solution. Most take and don't give! Come on guys, surely we can do as well! ChrisBradburn
I think the problem over this side of the pond is that we spend too long working for our primary employer. When I work in the States, they finish by 3:30 at the latest and have plenty of daylight hours left to tackle these jobs. They also seem to have very well appointed garages. Excellent write-ups though all the same. I have them filed away for when my door locks fail and have to persuade SWMBO of the importance of saving money. It reminds me of the "Compleat Idiot Manual" for the Beetle back in the 60s. Now that was a real manual, something that Haynes should aspire to!
