doogal1972
Just wondering. I assume the S3 has heated mirrors? If so, bugger! Mine aren't working. Any problems noted on this before? Fuse or something? Advice would be much appreciated. Cheers guys
jojo
Yes, all S3's have electric and heated mirrors, they usually flick on with the rear window demister or if the outside temps go below 5degreesC, then it should be automatic. You need to make sure that the electric mirror adjuster is in the central position for it to work off the demister switch, if it still doesn't work, then you'll need replacement mirrors I'm afraid. Approx £15 for clear glass per side from your local eurocarparts, or £40ish for genuine Audi OE glass with blue tint.
doogal1972
I assumed they worked all the time like the ones on my Cooper S. If they only come on when the temp drops below 5 degrees that might explain why they haven't come on. Also, I'll check the mirroor setting to the middle thing and also try them with the rear demister. Cheers for the advice
Chillihead
Yes you will have heated mirrors, they only operate when either heated rear window is powered or demister is set to blow hard and fast
S3ENVY
I didn't think that was the case. When I'm off to work in the morning and theres a covering of mist all over my car, within about 30 secs of starting the engine steam begins to roll off my mirrors and they clear. I don't have the blower activated or the rear de-mister. I bought my S3 from a dealer 4 months ago and 3 months after purchase I realised that one of the heated mirrors was faulty, charged me £29 for OEM clear glass and was a 5 min snap-on fit. bparkes
I agree with S3 Envy, I think the mirrors are always on but are temp controlled - also what I was told by a dealer when I had a mirror glass nicked but what do they know. good example this morning 15 degrees outside temp, no de-misters used and the mirrors clear by the end of my road. Most useful.
doogal1972
Well that was what I thought would be the case, them being on all the time like on my Cooper S. And for exactly the same reason as stated above, to clear the condensation on the mirrors. I'm sure (hopefully) they will work when it's iced up, I must have a play around with them to see if I can get them to work. I doubt they both are broken, so it must be a settings thing. Either that, or I could just read the instruction manual and be done with it!
khufu
The original mirrors were on all the time and so burnt out prematurely. The later and replacement ones have a thermistor so they only come on less than 5 degrees. This is on the 8L A3/S3
DHA
IIRC the originals were also meant to come on below 5 deg C and with the rear window heater. However the sensor in the mirrors got damaged when they went through a few heat cycles and therefore meant they were on all the time. In the later models this was fixed. bparkes
will have to have a look on elsawin now and see if there's a wiring diagram - you've got me thinking, from the wiring that I saw to the mirror, the power to the mirror heater was a perm live then the thermistor was designed to break the circuit and cut the power when the glass reached a certain temp which would mean the heater would come on almost regardless of outside temp. A3TDI
mine only seem to come on for a pre determined time when the ignition is switched on and its below 5c. they dont seem to come on with the rear screen heater,I`m sure theres an article about this on the audiworld website and instructions on how to rewire them to work with the rear screen heater. doogal1972
It's now official, my heated mirrors aren't working. After having the first frost of the year I thought I'd check to see if my mirrors are working. Unfortunately they are nit. If both mirrors aren't working surely it's a fuse or some sort of electrical fault? Any light anyone can shed would be greatly appreciated.
