roohster
Just bought my S3, and the dealer seemed to think it had been 'chipped' (or remapped, whatever)... but there isn't any documentation for it... any way I can tell without contacting the previous owner? I've never driven an S3 before buying this one, so have no comparison... it goes like stink ,but don't "standard" S3s do that anyway?
Mollox
In short its not that easy. Its not something you will be able to "see". If you have access to Vag-Com you could measure boost and that would be a giveaway. All other measurements will be subjective. Alternatively, bring it to a meet and we'll soon tell you. If you've had a chipped S3 you'll recognise it within 1 metre of driving it
JamesB
Can you contact the previous owner? If so, why not just do that. Tell him/her that you would be delighted because you were planning to chip it yourself and you'll probably get an honest reply. Otherwise, I'd have thought a rolling road might help, although other users here will know more about that than I do.

jonboy3020
normally, (depending on who performed the mod though)VAS has a hard time reading the engine ecu, thats how dealerships spot them, mods from AMD etc are pretty integral, and without reading the block values you wouldnt be able to tell
peteA3TDI
if you can hear the turbo in the middle air vents its chipped
A3Floyd
I used to be able to hear the turbo all of the time in my S3. It's gonna be hard to tell. All that i can say is that when the S3 was chipped, it was manic-fast, like a roller-coaster. When the software was removed, it just felt 'quick'. How about taking it somewhere to get a revo trial installed. its free and they'll see straight away if it's already been chipped. Just a thought...
