shark_90
Hi all, I've just bought a Phatbox on ebay and intend to fit it at the weekend. Apparently it is UK spec and has everything I need providing I have a CD changer lead. Now I believe that my car (2001 A4) should have a lead in the boot but a) after a quick look I can't find it, and b) I want it in the glovebox anyway. I've done quite a bit of searching this evening both on TSN and google and I can't ascertain which lead I need to go from my head unit to the phatbox in the glovebox. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have found some on ebay but they claim to be 5.5mtrs long, surely from the head unit to the glovebox I should be able to find shorter one? TIA Ben
Scotty
Can't really help apart from to suggest you drop the glove box out (it's only 5 or 6 torx screws and see if the 6cd cable is already there. They often are. I put mine in the glove box but it was a direct replacement for the 6cd so I knew I had the cable.

craigyb
I think you will find the 20 pin connector empty where the 9 pinds for the CD changer should be. Kufatec sell the pins for that connector, I normally chop off the flat connector for the Phatnoise and replace the ends with the pins and insert them into the 20 pin connector behind the HU. shark_90
No it wasn't rally959 Jon, it was harryandbilly. Craig, thanks for your response mate. I'll have a look at kufatec and get some pins ordered. Would it be immensely cheeky of me to ask for the wiring to a Concert HU?

craigyb
Wiring is available from the navplus site, the wires match the colours exactly on the lead supplied with the phatbox. http://www.nav-plus.com/instructions/a4b6.html Craig

shark_90
Right, an update. My car doesn't have the CD changer prep.. at all. For some reason there isn't a cable in the boot or in the glovebox, and the header that goes into the back of the head unit is actually blank where the CD changer wiring should go. So I've been in the lookout for the terminal pins to fit into this header, and after speaking to Martyn from VAGParts on Saturday, I have ordered 10 pre-wired pins for the grand total of about 9 quid. I'm working away now till Thursday so won't be able to install till then but fingers crossed I'll have all the right bits and away we go!
craigyb
I could have let you have some, but I'm down to my last 10 as Kufatec missed them off my last order and I need them for an install this weekend.
shark_90
Thanks anyway Craig, you're a gent. I looked at Kufatec, but my German is shite and I just happened to catch Martyn at Castle Combe on Saturday, which is why I have ended up getting them from VAGParts. I'm just hoping they're the right ones.
shark_90
Well, it took some doing, and it's certainly not the cleanest wiring I've ever done, but it works. I wish I had the right damn cable from the beginning which would have been much better in the long run. Just filling it up with tunes now. Bring on the muzak! pomme
Just wondering which ebayer you bought this off, as i had a problem with one selling a phatbox. In that he said it was the uk spec, even with me explaining the difference. I then received it and saw it was the US spec, then he admitted it was imported from America. I then returned the phatbox, but some problems have arrisen (but im not going to go into that). But he certainly knows the issue and just wondering if he is still selling them as UK spec even though he knows the issue and knows they are not, even when people ask.
