jamiey
Gulp... Unless I hear otherwise I pick up this afternoon... (or in spite of being warned there will be a large debit on my account the bank get RSy) Aside from checking the bottle opener hasn't been half-inched, What questions should I asked the Dealer? silentandy
Ask for the keys so you can get driving as soon as possible! The only thing I can remember asking was making sure it was set to long life servicing. I had a walk round the car to make sure there were no bumps & scratches and made sure I did have all the options I paid for (you never know with stealers do you!). That's about it. RedRobin
- What computer options have been activated in their Preparation for Delivery to Customer. It's stuff like locking and lighting. - Ask them to tell you specifically what the tyre pressures are (Bet they won't know!). - What fuel is in the tank (and why isn't it full of Optimax?). - Are the Xenons tested and properly aligned. There'll be other quezzies but I can't think of any right now and have to go out now and force myself to do another 150m+ drive in my GTI. Am sure the other guys here will add to the list. ENJOY!!!! (Yes, I'm shouting!) And take it easy and safe
Simonl
Isn't long life servicing mandatory on all GTI's now.
jamiey
No it's not. They asked if I wanted it set to longlife or time limited. Due to the mileage I do (not that much) I've opted for time limited (A trip once a year isn't too bad and beats the hassle of the twice a year I've had with the Subaru and always expensive each time). skifly
call before yo go to make sure auto door locking etc have been set how you want it - mine was set to not lock... they complained a little when i asked for it activating but i told them i would leave the car with them and they could deliver it on a trailer to london (from leeds) when it was ready of they preferred? Simonl
[ QUOTE ] They asked if I wanted it set to longlife or time limited. [/ QUOTE ] but how would that work. Say you do 30k in a year, surely that means you need a service every six months. Surely it's the mileage that contributes to wear, not time. jamiey
I'm not fussed about auto locking. I always find it a little unsettling being locked in (Don't fence me in!) I'm def going to check all the options are there (such as the highline, checking the tyre sizes, check the CD changer works). I'm getting really nervous (which is kind of weird) but it's odd replacing a car I've had for so long (shouldn't be so attached to a "thing"). lagrian
You have the highline computer so you can set auto locking yourself. Don't fotget to ask for the bottle opener and free oil top up in bag.

[/ QUOTE ] It's not necessarily the mileage that causes wear and tear. Driving lots of short journeys is worse for the engine than a similar mileage but done over much fewer journeys. Essentially due to the time it takes for the fluids to get to temperatrue and hence for the engine to be properly lubricated and up to temperature. mu71rd
how about lots of short journeys, combined with terrible roads in south london and lots of speed bumps EVERYWHERE?! makes for an unhappy car I reckon! I'll be heading out of london as much as possible to drive it when it arrives! can you change all the options if you have the highline (like lights, door locks, + anything else you might want to do)? allgolfdup
Hope you enjopy the car as much as we all are!! silentandy
I did wonder that one too. Does it come standard in any of the other countries?
jamiey
I do a lot of short journeys. My work is a 15 min drive, but a 50 min walk and to get a bus would take a hour (as I'd have to go into and then out of town) so I do a lot town mileage. jamiey
I've burnt 10 CDs and bought a new CD wallet for them. They're currently sitting in my Rucksac next to all the Paperwork for my old car (inc spare keys alarm codes etc), my sunglass (not going to need them today), bluetooth headset (so I don't get done) snd my Video Camera (for still photo's as my camera's packed up).
