theduisbergkid
Not that I'm a Rover fan (I spose the 75 was OK though), but I am surprised how quiet it has been in the media lately regarding their takeover by Nanjing. I cannot find anything about Nanjing on the net, and heard that Longbridge is all in boxes being shipped east. I thought that they would at least try and make/sell the MGF here, as that was the only viable thing they had left ... Anyonw know (or care) what has happened to Rover ? R32North
No!!! The MG name being lost (perhaps) is a shame but the rest of their appalling cars can go as far as I'm concerned.
NeilB
As a local, we are in the dark too about Rover too. Nanjing have said production of MG's will start at Longbridge again in the future (yeah right!) Powertrain has moved to China along with nearly all the tools from the production lines. And the Austin name is rumoured to be making a comeback for use in Europe. But it was revealed not long after the take over that Nanjing isn't really flush with cash. And on the workers front, it looks like some of them will come away from this with sweet fa in payouts.

[/ QUOTE ] Thats where the real shame of it all lies, with the people affected! I bet that many on the shop floor satff could've and would've had ideas to make Rovers Cars better and sell more, but management being what they are probably didn't listen and Rover made crap cars and went bust!! Now the workers have to suffer for management incompetence

theduisbergkid
A poor product, badly built, badly marketed and badly financed. But despite all that, I miss them. Bringing back Austin is a joke surely ? Aa friend in China says Nanjing are NOT are car manufacturer, but are into industrial stuff like buses etc... It the end of the road I reckon .... NeilB
Also poorly looked after customers, because some of the workforce still had the same attitude as the days of Red Robbo the cars would fall apart, literally! And then they would take ages to fix it and then try and fob you off with a lower spec car.

cruiser647
[ QUOTE ] I spose the 75 was OK though [/ QUOTE ] Nope, the 75 and MG derivative were good. Looked good, had presence - the inerds were maybe for the older generation, but overall - that was a good car. The old 25 & 45 were awful and their age old designs did not help. They were too slow on replacements for them The dire marketing campaign did not help - that was really pi55 poor. I have no quals in marketing, but I reckon I could have done better. CRAP, no Utter CRAP. But then, this has been mentioned before.

All the showrooms seem to be up for sale or bought by Kia!

Kia and Hyundai must be having a field day mopping up all those pensioner customers ....

NeilB
No, the old folks are put off by the loud mouthed and big headed young asians lusting over the Civic Type R. (As you can tell I've had a run in with three c*nts driving a Type R...)

Thorburn
I actually drove a Type-R the other week and its quite a fun car, the majority of drivers are knobs and the steering isn't great, but the engine has an endearing power delivery..... I'll get me coat
NeilB
No need to get your coat at all. No doubt that it's a cracking car designed by a company that has racing at it's heart (almost like Ferrari some would say) Buy why oh why do the wa*kers go and have to spoil it all?
