simonb
Currently working on a project, whereby i have to differentiate between 2 projects that my company is going to tender for. I need to present my Commercial Director with a decision tree. What software would be best for this? I need to draw lines, circles, boxes and add text etc. IT isn't my forte - i've got basic programmes. Word would be ok apart from when you add other bits it always seems to go t1ts up. Paint is ok too but difficult to edit later. I was thinking Excel but i need to draw horizontal, diagonal and vertical lines which is possible but i would prefer the diagonal likes to go to the middles of the node boxes rather than to the corners. Any suggestions chaps?? Also - PDF files. How do i create one? I have Adobe Acrobat but only ever used it for viewing. Is it as simple as 'Save As', the change file type from .doc, or .xls etc to .pdf??
Jon
Hi, For diagrams like that i use M$ Visio which is pretty good although not cheap. As for creating PDF's i use a product called Primo PDF which you can get from www.primopdf.com it installs as a printer so just go into any app click on print and select the Primo PDF printer. It will then promt you for a location to save the file. Jon.

Busby
Not sure on the PDF's but definitely another vote for Visio to map things. I work as a project manager and use Visio a hell of a lot - very easy to use and produces really good results meaning you don't spend a week trying to explain the process flow to a client
Chris_B
Just check what version of Visio you need. Standard won't have the time/process planning templates, if you think you need those. Check out the versions comparison at http://www.microsoft.com/office/visio/prodinfo/compare.mspx
R32North
Most apps like Word, Project, Visio, etc can 'print' to PDF so long as you have the Acorbat installed and 'print to PDF' function. so, you can diagram you decision tree and then 'print' to PDF. Easy peasy!
malagus
there is a mind map software called mindmanager that is good at that.

R32North
I was assuming that the company has Acrobat, rightly or wrongly, as everywhere I've worked has it! Will look into PrimoPDF for myeslf.
