v6tas
Just reading the new VW driver mag and heres the quote from the R32's head developer Dirk Junger............... " I asked Dirk the inevitable question, 'why hadnt VW used the new 3.6 version of the V6 engine in the R32', he threw up his hands in frustration and said 'I have been asked this so many times !, The 280ps 3.6 had been developed solely for the Passat and there was never any question of it being used in the Golf,' I asked whether this was because of the torque handling limit of the DSG gearbox; 'No the DSG can handle the 350nm of torque developed by the 3.6 but this was not a factor in the decision. We regard the 3.2 as the right engine for the R32'" So guys doesnt look likely that were going to get the 3.6 in the Golf im afraid

Mook
That's where VW have got it so wrong. Some boffin in Germany decides that they don't want to do it. HOW ABOUT ASKING YOUR CUSTOMERS MR VOLKSWAGEN!
AGK512
So then is the MkV R32 starting to look more like a "ten two" proposition than a "five two" ?
Mook
WTF does that mean?
robin09
Manufacturers nowadays are always harking on about 'researching their customers for this' and 'using consultation groups for that' before releasing a car. If they're willing to find members of the public to sit in a room and talk about how to improve the all new renault scenic, why can't they be bothered to ask enthusiasts how best to produce a new R32? If they knew what the paying public really wanted in a new model, surely it would then sell better. I mean its not as if we're hiding. I for one would be willing to tell them chrome on a bumper looks rubbish, free of charge! COME ON VW! (And every other manufacturer) End of rant. Ritey
I still think the R32 is being released early than it should if it was going to be the top Golf model, I would still hold out ...

belperandy
Yes, the R32 is being released far too early for it to be top Model. They mostly bring the best engines out last to keep people buying. If the R32 is the Top of the line this would mean another 4-5 years of the MK5 with no more Progression. IMO

Langers555
Don't you mean back to primary school? The VW guy said that 'they' (VW) came to the decision that the 3.2 is the right engine for the R model. He never said that they did not consult customers or potential customers. Just because a couple of nutters on Tyresmoke want a bigger engine does not mean that the average customer does.
N3WOB
Given my disappointment with the V32, my hope is/was that there would be a harder more exclusive model, whether a tweaked 32 or whatever. Interesting concept of being described as a nutter, I'm pretty conservative!

robin09
I can't imagine that any customer if asked "should we add a more powerful Golf to the range, that would then be head and shoulders above the competition?" would answer "No". That goes for Non-tyresmokers too!

AGK512
Ah well you see.... When your in a small town night club and are eyeing up a couple of gals or guys after a few too many Then the more attractive one you were summoning up the courage to ask out leaves at 1:45...So as your first option dissappears the five two option suddenly doesn't look so bad through those goggle glasses. Then again maybe I should get out in the daylight more
