NewNiceMrMe
I have taken over 5 hours to get from Northampton up to Newcastle this morning. The driving conditions were the worst I have ever had to put up with for such a long period of time. It rained heavily for every single second of the journey. Very heavily. If anyone has been on the M1 between these locations this morning then they'll know exactly what I mean. To give you an idea of it, I took a few snaps... Firstly...this is a new 997 Porsche 911 Carrera 2S that I was behind... Secondly, at the Leicester 40mph speed restriction, a very nice Aston Martin DB7 Vantage. Finally, god knows what the cars in the distance were, but the conditions at this point were absolutely incredible. The road was more river-like than anything else and at one point I was down to about 45mph for a good 5-10 mile stretch as the traffic ahead trying sailing rather than driving. Glad to be back in one piece to be honest. I've just heard that the M1 Northbound has been shut near Sheffield because of an accident, and that doesn't suprise me in the slightest. John_Doe
Mrme, how spectacularly irresponsible of you to be taking digital camera pics whilst driving in those trecherous conditions... PC Smeaton, arrest this fecker once and for all!!! And whats is wrong with the middle or nearside lane???
Chav
I've driven in far worse conditions than that anyway ... you can see out of the windscreen, so it can't be that bad!

I didn't say it was the worst conditions I'd ever driven in.....I said they were the worst for such a prolonged period of time!
skifly
i was in the states when hurrican floyd ran up the coast - i have never see rain like it. It was so bad that the rain couldnt get off the road and into the drainage ditches fast enough and you couldnt tell where the edge of the road was - the wipers on the van were running over the water on the screen and not clearing any of it. We just stopped dead in the middle of the road just like everyone else and waited for the band of rain to pass. If anyone's been near a hurricane you will know it comes in bands that curl out from the main part of the storm. Was a very scary time!!!

NewNiceMrMe
I wouldn't fancy being caught up in a hurricane thats for sure. The main factor behind this mornings 'bad drive' was the fact the weather remained like this for the full 270 miles. Normally, when travelling such a South to North distance, the weather would change....but it was the same all the way.
theduisbergkid
Thats weird ! I did Junction 23 to Juntion 30 on the M1 this morning, and it wasn't bad at all ! What time was this ?
NewNiceMrMe
Well I must have had the fecking clouds following me up then. I set off just after 8am and got up here at 1.20pm. I reckon I'll have been between 23 and 30 around 9.30-11.00am.
CarMad
Looks like you are following too close to the other cars for the conditions to me. I must say that rain sensing wipers come into their own in conditions like this. They constantly speed up and slow down with however much rain there is and you don't get annoyed by the rain being on, off, on off and everything inbetween. Worst I had was coming back from Preston on the M6 once and it rained so hard that all the traffic stopped and lightening was striking buildings near the side of the motorway it was very bad. There was that much rain that even as the traffic slowed down to a crawl you aquaplanned. The radio stations where giving reports every few minutes as to where the storm was it was so bad. ChadW
MrMe Good job you were not on M5 northbound coming upto Junction 2 in those conditions, as newly laid tarmac and water do not go well together, especially if you are behind a Picasso/Scenic MPV! Like a mini tsunami coming at you that is!

NewNiceMrMe
I like it, I really do. The DVD isn't something that bothers me because the kids haven't had the chance to even go out for long in the car yet. I'd prefer it to be RWD or Quattro. NewNiceMrMe
Bollocks. It's a camera on the phone. It takes all of 2 seconds to snap a picture. If you look at the angle they're taken at you'll click onto the fact I hold the phone in my right hand....and keep hold of the wheel too. Now thanks for the lectures boys.
