Andy_PC
OK, giving up the will to live big time!! Started refurbing my 1.9 wheels today - the plan is to repaint them either gloss black or anthracite with a polished rim, silver inside etc. Tried Nitromors - waste of time and effort! Bought a selection of wire brushes from the local DIY corner shop and managed to get all the paint of 3 of them but obviously the brushes left some scuffing (power drill jobs). Will persevere (it's a winter project after all) but my main question is whether the rims can be diamond cut after I've painted and if yes should I not laquer and leave that to whoever I get to diamond cut the rim? Also got to clean about 10 years' worth of grime off the insides and I'm wondering if I'm being *that* clever by DIYing it?! What do you lot reckon colour wise as I don't want boring silver - black or anthracite? Oh and it absolutely sh@t it down on my way back from Didcot so 205 now sporting the "Colin McRae" look and I won't have time to clean it this weekend
cleanimage
Wow! I don't know where to begin with this one! If it is possible to diamond cut them, then I wouldn't think you can do it after you have painted them. Bare in mind that if you cut them they need to be lacqured as the bare metal will corrode... and normal lacqure is crap for this. Most of the diamond cut wheels that come out of the factory corrode after about 18months. But there are a couple of companies who can do various special kinds of powder coating and stove enammeling which can last much longer... surely it's better just to get them to do all the paintwork in a durable finish? badgera
Andy, Try and get a quote from a local blasting place, you'll might be surprised at the cost, and ultimatly the finish may be better...
helfinger
you need to take your rims to 'Metal Magic' in barnsley. I had 4 audi TT 3.2 L rims stripped, and repainted (powder Coated) and it was only £160 and they look amazing.
