NewNiceMrMe
On my visit/experience yesterday I picked up the latest combined M5/6 brochure. On reading through it I was interested to see they have a full page of direct comparison between the two cars. I've picked out the main bits that I thought people would be intersted in. Despite my claims yesterday that the M6 felt quicker than the M5 (and indeed it is), I was surprised that the differences aren't bigger than they are. Engine specifications (config/stroke/compression/output/torque) are identical and both cars push out the 507bhp we know about. Here's a few choice statistics: The first figure is the M5, the second in the M6. Weight 1,830kg 1,785kg 0-31mph 2.1s 2.0s 0-50mph 3.6s 3.5s 0-60mph 4.4s 4.3s 0-62mph 4.7s 4.6s 0-75mph 6.2s 6.1s Everything else..and I mean absolutely everything else, reads the same! Fuel economy, braking distances, the lot! The other differences are cosmetic or equipment related. The M5's armrest is a front sliding variety. In the M6 it's the same as in the 645 which is a Front Two-stage lifting armrest. The M6 comes with the Extended Voice Control system as standard, whereas it's an option on the M5. The M6 comes with the Logic 7 Hi-Fi system, whereas again it's an option on the M5. M6 seats come with lumbar support - an option on the M5. The M6 interior is carbon fibre trimmed as standard whereas it's brushed aluminium (as in my 645) on the M5. Other trim options on the M6 are Natural Olive Carrara Wood trim, Madeira Walnut Wood Trim or Piano Black Hi-Gloss. Interestingly enough the brushed aluminium cannot be ordered. The M6's roof is Carbon Fibre of course, and the bumper supports are lightweight carbon fibre. Finally, and rather oddly....the M6 doesn't have any rear spoiler requirement at all, whereas the M5 does.

NewNiceMrMe
Noise....much more noise....and a much more purposeful car in my opinion. It doesn't sound much different I know - but it felt a world apart. It felt like £83k of car.
Chav
[ QUOTE ] It felt like £83k of car. [/ QUOTE ] Or even a 45K car with a bigger engine! For that money, it would be italian exotica or AM V8 for me... much more special.
NewNiceMrMe
But it's so much more than just a bigger engine. The body design has had to be altered in places to cope with the downforce required, the engineering throughout it's mechanices has to cope with so much more stress, and that roof is just a little bit special. I do take the point though and my own hesitation is perhaps somewhat related to it. Nonetheless, we'll see what 12-24 months brings on the used market and maybe then. Besides, what's a Lambo? A VW with a flash suit.

walter_the_great
i would have to agree with MRME here, from what i have heard(from people who have driven both the M5 and M6)the M6 is meant to be alot better car than the M5 not just faster and the extra premium although 20k is meant to add to the excluisivity(sp?) of the M6, i would still rather wait for 2 years then see the prices. RE: Lambo, i agree with the Gallardo being "too Audi" but the Murci?
Chav
So are people saying BMW have inflated the price just to guarantee exclusivity for the M6? WTF... If I'm spending the best part of a 100K on a car, I want a 100K car! Not a 60K with an anti-chav tax. I wouldn't buy an £85K Audi S-car either. CarMad
They are charging what they think they can get away with.... Don't BMW / Audi et al always do that.
Woppum
Its closest competitor in terms of performance is the Ferrari 612 which is well over double the price... So in that respect it is a bargain. The Merc CL55 is also close to 100 (no options!) and that is probably no way near as gooder car as the M6! [/ QUOTE ] you can't deny that the price will not affect the exclusivity of the car, otherwise we all would have one. the M6 and M5 are both different cars built for different purposes. true wat was mentioned earlier i would rather have an AMV8, but if i wanted a BMW and i had that much cash to blow i would buy the M6
