Neimad
I'd love to but since the new car won't be here until March next year and I'm trying to keep the mileage on my current car to a minimum (not easy when you're already doing an 80 mile-a-day round trip to work) I'll have to pass this time round... Really would like to meet up with some of you folks though, put names to faces and all.
GTiMK5
Red, you dont live that far from me mate. Its a bit of a trek but once you get off the M1 its not too bad a drive to Harrogate and there are some good roads once there. I worked there for 2 years so did know it quite well. I am not a definite yet mind as I am away and it depends on whether I am back in time and also the other half agreeing as we are due to be moving to a new house at the end of Nov too. One of the hurdles is easily managed, the other not so easy.

RedRobin
"GTI fuss"??....I take it you mean you want to see why it instills so much enthusiasm? You not inspected one or been in one yet? It's not the best car in the world but it has that extra something and, like your van, is a very practical vehicle.

RedRobin
Bridport (West Dorset) near Lyme Regis to Harrogate = 6 hours? Full tank of Optimax each way?....What time to meet and what's the typical agenda please? I think I'd need to stay somewhere Sunday night - I've usually got a roll-up and sleeping bag in my boot, so anyone's floor will do.

Simonl
I think the 6 series is gorgeous, as is the M5 as is the Z4. Will hold back judgement on the 3 series until i've seen the coup/cab, but the 1 series is a sorry state of affairs... what a lost opportunity, they could have screwed VW with that car. I actually admire bangle though, not for his cars, but as a designer who's always looking to push boundries.
scotw
Z4 looks fantastic, new 3-series Im not sure about, but the 1 is just plain ugly (or does my signature kinda express that opinion). I kinda like the 6, I have to say.

Its a sorry day when users of tyresmoke can not be honest in their views, without childish attacks. I remember Audi_Smitten you did not like the childish 'pig' attack made at you... 7MAT
Personally I like the look of both the M5 and M6, but would never own one as too big and heavy. I saw the new 330d yesteday in the BM showroom fitted with there new sports kit - have to say I liked it and think the coupe version should be another winner. The 1 series is fugly, but what a great drive. Had one on loan for a few day and started to fall for it. Even considered buying the 130i for a few minutes. But my favourite BM has got to be the new Z4 coupe! IMHO this is the nicest looking car for a long time. Matt
jamiey
Z4 coupe is still a mile away from the grace of proportion that 3.0 CSL had. BMW really need to find purity of line again. The new 3 is ruined but lots of fussy details at the back that make me think Hynundai. Look at an E30 or E34 they still look great today. Saying that the new 5 has really grown on me and looks better as time goes on (though it has less "detailing" so that might explain it)
RedRobin
Many of us GTI owners have owned BMWs so I guess it's not surprising that we are so aware of what BMW are producing. Personally, I like the new styling except for the Series-1. But I think that all BMWs are good cars and dare I admit it that I seriously considered a Series-1 until I test drove the GTI. Test driving the BM was next on my list....But I didn't look any further.

[/ QUOTE ] BMW's always tick all the boxes for me, and i always get completely seduced in the showroom, but then i own them and it all seems to go down hill. They just never seem to get under my skin like other cars have. Maybe an M would... I saw an M3 CSL the other day in steel grey (or equivalent), man what a car, it was absolutely stunning!!! Never got on with Alpinas either, very dated and fussy IMO
