Oatz
The one i viewed today had worn really badly on the right hand side (whilst sitting) but it has covered 36k in less than two yrs so maybe something to do with it....?? swil00
Which bolster do you mean, the Backrest ones or the seat base ? I'd imagine the condition of them is down to how careful the owners have been getting in the car and not just the size of the person. I've had mine from new, Almost 2yrs old with 16K and there are no signs of wear on the drivers seat. The passenger side does have a couple of marks on the backrest bolsters. Lets face it, like most sporty models the R has pretty large bolsters to help keep you in place on the bends. They are great seats, but will have the drawback wearing over time if folk can't get in and out carefully. Its just a matter of finding a well cared for example. I've looked at 2yr old 330 Sport BM's where the drivers seat base bolster were knackered, and not just worn.
Oatz
I'm refering to the backrest bolsters, it seems such a shame for such a new car to have suffered from this unsightly wear, my 13 yr old supra (now sold) suffered fom this slightly but to no where near the extent of some of the R's ive seen recently
Markallain
Not sure what price range of R you are looking at but usually the lower end priced cars have that extra wear or have had little in the way ot TLC.
Golfgirl
My driver's bolster was showing signs of wear when I bought the car with only 10k miles on the clock. I tried to push for it to be covered under warranty but with no luck See attachment for a pic of where it is getting worn.

Moschops
I always push my seat back when I get out and pull it forward when I get in this saves the wear and tear on the bolster
Calm Chris
Surely is caused by the seat belt 'rub'. Mine has minor wear and when I'm locked in place by the seat belt, the belt does touch the side bolster per Claires photo. I've a 30" waist, I'm sure Claires is much less . Conclusion being that if your fat wasted (budda belly) then there's less wear due to belt being held away from bolster by flab! So if you find a R32 drivers seat with unworn bolster, then the seat is likely to be knackered due to the heavyweight driver! Cure? Once every 4 months a small amount of shoe polish cleans the wear up and gives the area less friction!
Pincher
[ QUOTE ] I've a 30" waist [/ QUOTE ] I don't think I've had a 30" waist since I was about
N3WOB
[ QUOTE ] I've a 30" waist [/ QUOTE ] That seat must be mighty big for you then...considered some extra cushions to wedge yourself in
1monty
The seat base gets baggy on all full leather seats I have seen! The seat should have been made with extra stitching across the middle somehow so that there would have been less 'slack' leather in each panel. A very poor design in my opinion, which has disappointed me. VW not interested!
Mook
I like to keep my car in good condition, even though it covers so many miles, but if the seats wear, I genuinely couldn't give a toss. I didn't buy my car to keep the seats pretty. When you buy a second hand car, you shouldn't expect everything to be absolutely immaculate. If you think the seats are overly worn, then use this in your negotiations with the seller. Not sure how many miles GolfGirl's car has done, but (with 44K on the clock) my seats are about the same as the attachment in her post. If you want an immaculate .:R32 then try to persuade Moschops to part with his, as it's only covered about 1,000 miles now...

I do hope VW is learning its lesson

Calm Chris
My bolster only wears where the seat belt rubs. Its got nowt to do with getting in and out of the car. Everything to do with G-force on Haldex assisted hairpins, sharp bendx and roundabouts.
Mook
[ QUOTE ] sharp bendx and roundabouts [/ QUOTE ] You've gone all domestic electrical appliance on us there Chris - Sharp, Bendix. Never found a Roundabout appliance in the kitchen yet, but maybe you were referring to the Rombouts coffee maker, while you (or your other half) were sorting out your hairpins with the latest G-Force hair care products... [/ QUOTE ] It's done 38k now, but I bought it at 10k. I'm careful getting in and out and the bolsters are no more worn now than they were when I bought the car I never thought about the seatbelt rubbing, I just assumed it was from the previous owners 'build'. I don't think my seatbelt rubs where there are signs of wear, but I'll check next time I'm out.
Soulboy
Buy one with the Monte Carlo (cloth seats)! No sign of wear whatsoever and the heater works properly on all 5 settings. They dont sag and are not boiling hot in summer, then freeezing cold in winter. Oh, and it will probably be cheaper as well.
Mook
Good call Soulboy - trouble is, I got hooked on leather seats as soon as the kids arrived. Aside from the luverley smell of leather, cloth seats are a pig to keep clean. Ask my better half, who's got cloth seats in her Passat Freezing cold in the winter? Was never a problem in the Allroad - I wish I could now though, with these damned seat bolsters on the .:R32, worn or not...
