Ari
Ok so the performance is impressive, but get your head round this... Car engines, especially high performance engines, lose a lot of the power created through heat loss and other power sapping items, and so need to start off more powerful in order to end up producing the figures needed. Non more so than the Veyron. In actual fact, in terms of maximum combustion enery (ie pure output were there no losses to allow for) the Veyron actually produces 3,000 bhp!!! 1,000hp of this is lost in cooling, and another 1,000hp is strangled out of it by the exhaust system, leaving the remaining 1,000hp to find its way out of the engine in real power. Oh, and it only requires 270hp (roughly a quarter of max output) to reach 155mph, the other 730hp gets it the next 100mph!
bazza_g
how about the fact that the indicator stalk, machined from an Aluminium/Magnesium alloy cost £4500

Mmmmmmmmm still think it looks like a slug though..... 1M = Ferrari Enzo...... McLaren F1, Carerra GT, Merc SLR, Pagani Zonda F,K CCR... loads more.. 5to1
I'm guessing the buyers of the Veyron have either had or still have all those cars listed.
Ari
Ok, a few more numbers for you Veyron fans to crunch, culled from the Evo roadtest this month. Brim your Veyron with petrol (22 gallons so roughly £100 at UK prices), wheel it out onto the empty Autobahn and wind it up to 250mph. 12 minutes later you'll be out of fuel. And 51 miles away!! Oh, and need to stop in a hurry? Hit the brakes hard at 250mph and the eight pot front and six pot rear callipers will bite into 400mm front and 380mm rear carbon discs, and aided by the rear spoiler kicking up into an air brake in 0.4 of a second providing additional rear downforce on the back tyres and up to 0.6G additional braking effort, it will bring you from that 250mph to a standstill in less than 10 seconds. We'll leave you to peal your eyeballs off the windscreen... Oh, and one last statistic. See your mate in his MacLaren F1? Tell him to floor it off the line as hard as he can up to 200mph. Wait till he's hit 100mph on the way and then floor your Bugatti from a standstill. You'll be doing 200mph before he is! It's quite quick apparently! NewNiceMrMe
Yes, I've been poring over these figures this morning. It's a car that breaks the mould in almost every way. It shatters everything that has gone before it. Wonder how long it will be before someone from TSN in the London area posts a picture of one in the Spotted forum? Ari
The nice thing is it actually sounds like quite a decent car, which I think a lot of people thought it wouldn't be. Many people figured a car that was capable of handling 250mph would be useless at, say, 50-150mph. Must admit I felt that might be the case. But Bugatti seemed to have pulled it off, which is really great.

Snail
[ QUOTE ] 1,000hp is strangled out of it by the exhaust system, [/ QUOTE ] WOW! So an uprated exhaust could give 1000bhp? Feck me!
Woppum
Yeah I'm much more imprested than I thought I would be. Evo and Autocar are full of praise. I thought it would just be another compromised Bentley GT or SLRy thing with oodles of power, but oodles of weight too. But apparently it corners very well. Still Its more of a long distance cruiser than out and out sports car. Its interesting a CSL is faster than an SLR and Gallardo on the ring. Do we think the Bugatti will be as quick with well over 2000 kilos of laiden weight?
