NunchukHamster
Morning all. I was being followed by a friend yesterday. when we stopped he told me that my driver's side brake light was out. When I checked, it was working but very dim compared to passenger side. I stuck a new bulb in and that sorted the problem, I thought. However, the lights on buzzer now seems to be tripped by the brake lights (i.e. open door, with keys out of ignition and foot on brake)as well as normal lights. Got to work this morning to find the same light is completely u/s now, and the drivers side sidelight has also gone. Any suggestions? Haven't had a chance to check fuses yet, do the passenger and drivers side have separate?
zchybrid
they are duel element bulbs and it sounds like you pushed it in the wrong way round!! turn your side lights on and see if that bulb is brighter than the other, if so then thats the problem.... NunchukHamster
I think I have found the problem - Halfords. Took the bulb number from their fitments lists and installed it, but it seems to only have one set of contacts, not two. Picking up proper one later. Only other thing, it's a 2001 Passat 1.8T Sport estate. Where's the bloody fuse box? I looked where the owner's manual says (basically, on the end of the dashboard housing, when door is opened, behind cover).

NunchukHamster
Had a wee try, but it didn't seem interested in budging. Will have another look next time it stops raining.
NunchukHamster
Ok, got it this time, but no blown fuses. Even weirder, I have now noticed that whenever I put my foot on the brakes that the drivers side sidelight (which I thought was blown) comes on. Eventually got bored of standing out in rain trying to figure it out, going to garage at 0800 where they promise is to sought it while I wait. We'll see! NunchukHamster
All sorted now. The Halford's bulb had shorted the circuit somehow, eventually the fuse blew, meaning I had to move the car with no rears lights in this morning's glorious weatherr.
