gino128
...for a daily 120-mile round trip commute? Will it stand 30k miles a year and still be going at the end of the year? Will it be economical enough? Looked into the VX220 or the Elise 111s bringing 40mpg, but can the Cooper S get anywhere near that - it would be nice to have a car I could get in AND out of! Thaks for any long-distance motorway experiences!!
A3Floyd
From what i've heard, you'll not see any decent fuel consumption from the S. Plus i never found the S as nice to drive compared to the standard cooper. Ok, the S has more go but the one i drove sounded like a tractor whenever i hit the loud pedal, that would drive me buts on a long commute every day. That said, the Elise and VX would be a bit tiring too. I'd recommend a standard Cooper, I loved it.
Ritey
My Dad looked at the S and for the money went for a Leon Cupra R
Booster
Economy on the Cooper S is p1ss poor! You will be lucky to see 25mpg, even on a long run. My Mrs has a Cooper (non S) and she does a 40 mile round trip to work, all but 2 miles of which is nice A roads. We never get more than 290 miles out of a tank. I don't think this is particularly good for a 1.6 car. If I was going to be doing the mileage you are talking about, I wouldn't consider anything but a diesel (and not a diesel Mini as they are REALLY slow). loddrik
We got rid of the GF's Cooper S as it was thirsty as hell, not good for her 45 mile round trip to work every day. How about the 160bhp Seat Ibiza TDi?
