Wikkus
Aye-aye, all. My S3 is now 4 yrs old and has recently turned 68,000miles. It's looking a bit untidy (thanks to w@nkers in car-parks, mainly) but has generally been mechanically ok. Lately, I've heard a sort of graunching noise emanating from the rear end when turning at slow speeds. Sounds expensive Anyone had any trouble with their Haldex? Anyone know of any easy (and preferably inexpensive) way of confirming it? I don't want to go to an Audi Stealership if at all poss as they seem quite clueless on the whole. Worried now Rik. khufu
graunching? Not sure what you mean. I'd doubt it would be the hadex.
pistolpete
It is haldex related. Worse when on full lock, slow speed?? I had exactly the same problem a couple of months back. After trying numerous things I changed the fluid in the diff, sorted it straight out. Available from audi for about £30 IRC. Let me ask you another question, have your back tyres worn prematurely? Mine did, figured it may be related.
a18eem
hi, i think i am having the same problem, had the powerflex bushes including engine mount dog bone/milltek sports cat and the haldex ecu done, since then i too have noticed a ' grunching ' noise .i thaught it may be the engine mount or the exhaust pipe rattle... my car has done 50000 miles. i think it is time to change the haldex oil !!! Wikkus
[ QUOTE ] It is haldex related. Worse when on full lock, slow speed?? [/ QUOTE ] *DING!* [ QUOTE ] I had exactly the same problem a couple of months back. After trying numerous things I changed the fluid in the diff, sorted it straight out. I'm not a mechanical numpty so will happily have a crack at it. [ QUOTE ] Let me ask you another question, have your back tyres worn prematurely? Mine did, figured it may be related. [/ QUOTE ] Not yet, but the tyres are relatively new and I only noticed it since having them fitted. I thought, at first, it was actually the tyres (P6000) but once it started to get more noticeable, guessed otherwise. Thanks a million for assisting on this. Rik. Wikkus
[ QUOTE ] graunching? Not sure what you mean. [/ QUOTE ] Grinding, crunching noise often associated with gears. [ QUOTE ] I'd doubt it would be the hadex. [/ QUOTE ] What made you say that? As it is, see the post immediately after yours. Will, of course, post back once I've done this. Rik. Wikkus
SORTED!!! As per the suggestion, got it booked into Follett's in Snorbans and he did a Haldex oil and filter change for £105 inc VAT. Maybe one to add to the FAQ, mods? Rik.
