Stickybloke
I'm shopping around for an S3 at the moment and test drove one at main dealer today. The salesman told me it had an audi approved remap but he didn't know who had done it. Does anyone know who the approved remappers are? I didn't know such things existed. The car had clearly been rempped and it also an aftermarket exhaust - a larger looking version of the standard system. I had planned on getting a remap when I got an S3 so perhaps this is the way to go - that said it is £19995 for an 03 with 20k on it.....
doogal1972
I didn't think there was such a thing either. Maybe it's some bullsh!t chat from a salesman, they do do it quite a bit. Seems quite pricey, but then again it is on a forecourt therefore they are doing you a favour.....yeah right! I decided to to go the private route instead when buying my car to avoid the high forecourt prices. You do get peice of mind buying from a stealer but you pay for it! If I was you, I'd probably buy one unmodded and get it done yourself from someone like AMD or Revo. That way you know the history of the car and you know it won't have been ragged with a remap. You can do that yourself when you get it done!! I don't profess to be an expert, it's just me 2p's worth mate. Good luck, you won't regret buying an S3. Awesome car! Wallachie
There is no such thing as an approved remap from Audi! When my car was new the dealer took it to Superchips to get it remapped for the guy who owned it before me, they charged him an extra £1000 for the pleasure, but wouldn't state categorically that if something ever went bang, that they would cover the work with warranty. As long as the car has been well looked after, and wasn't remapped by some dodgy garage I wouldn't be too concerned. You mentioned that the car has an aftermarket exhaust, I would personally begin to question why a '03 has been modded so much, sounds like it may have had a hard 20k miles! Save yourself a few £k and buy privately, anything from a 52 onwards with some warranty left which you could extend as long as the car has a FASH. I'll sell you mine if you like (shameless plug!!) Stickybloke
Indeed. Pretty much as I thought then :-) Have my eye on a private one - slightly more miles but better spec and 4 grand less. No brainer really. Just wanted to check that there really wasn't an approved remap I've had Subarus in the past and they have the approved Prodrive remap so I did wonder.... Now all I have to do is, like Mollox, get rid of the M3

Stickybloke
The car certainly drives like its been remapped so I don't doubt them on that!
tinka
correct me if im wrong, but mtm and oettinger are either approved or recognised by vag, when i had mine done at rsd he had a couple of new audi's in waiting for remaps, i heard him saying to a customer that the dealer marks up the price of the remap a further 25% over what he charges anyone outside the main dealer route, all an approved remap means is that any problems will not void the warranty,if you contact rsd or qst they will tell you more. DukeDesmo
I understand that some dealers will send cars to AMD, if so the dealer will give warranty after AMD's remap but I think this only applies if it's done through the dealer, I don't know how much the dealer would charge on top of AMD's price. Scotty
Tinka - you asked to be corrected.....you're wrong! Audi UK do not cover any performance mod. Some dealers will chip the car for you. Some of these will even take out 3rd party warranties for you (you're paying for them of course). Some will put your warranty claim through by turning a blind eye to the mods (i.e. they defraud Audi UK) At the end of the day, Audi UK do not cover any performance mod. Audi Germany (not to be confused with Audi Gmbh) cover Abt.
Simonl
S3's did have an approved remap, it was called a facelift.

Roswell
When I test drove at Audi Glasgow, the salesmen told me that they "can chip cars" and that "it doesn't affect your warranty". Although (most) salesmen usually talk through their ar$e anyway!
Mollox
Simply ask them to put that in writing and watch them squirm By the way I don't have an M3 Cab...especially not one in thatcolour! That sig was a little joke a while back I should have updated. I have an S3 with a REVO remap Believe what you read here - there is no such thing as a warrantied chipped car in the UK. If the tuners use the words "warranty" then they are referring to the work they have done on your car - i.e. the chip & the soldering in the case of a trad chip and I'm not sure what if its a serial port remap! All good though
tinka
ill find out the wording of my warranty from rsd,its quite comprehensive which is why i had them do it?.
Simonl
A dealer might honour a remapped warranty on a car he's sold to you but Audi UK certainly wouldn't honour it (if the dealer was being honest with Audi UK that is). My guess is that the dealer is underwiting the warranty himself. But as mollox says, you'd want it in writing.
Mollox
The dealer wouldn't underwrite the work themselves
Simonl
No, but they'd happily pull the wool over Audi UK's eyes

Stickybloke
Lol - glad to hear you haven't got an M3 that colour! Well, the dealer was adamant that the car would be warrantied and that there were approved remaps available across the VAG lot. I doubted it at the time and it looks like I may have been right to
