wyliss
Just had a look on Ebay and some of the prices on their are around the £16k mark. Obviously you would do all the checks yourself but comparing the price with a 'Stealer' its great for us used buyers !
DeanW
They're not selling for that though are they? Pretty much every one I've looked at is 'reserve not met' unless it's a high mileage car in which car £16K is probably it's money.
wyliss
Your right, I see a few of them have at least 2 days left. Looking at some of them they seem to come from good homes, 1 owner, FASH etc. I suppose its like buying one from the Autotrader really. When I am ready to purchase I would much rather prefer to source one from one of thew guys on here. Cheers
DeanW
Have you considered buying from auction mate? It's not as scary as people make out and you can get a whole lot more car for your £££
wyliss
I have actually but don't know which ones to try. I have lokked at a company called 'BCA' but it looks as if its a trade thing. Do you have any info? Cheers in advance
DeanW
BCA auctions are open to the trade and public mate, apart from the occasional manfacturers 'closed' sale. I bought my cab from BCA Brighouse back in February and paid about £3K off the book price. I'd definately recommend it if you've nothing to PX and don't require finance etc, I'd only buy something still under warranty mind.
wyliss
Thing is checking the car for mechanical faults or finance. How would I go about this? Ta
Chav
One benefit of buying used from a dealer, is that you'll usually get a warranty (12 months with Audi I think) And to check history/finance and mechanics etc, you could call the AA... AA DEKRA assured car history checks linky
wyliss
Thanks for that. How would you sort a mechanical check out at a place like BCA though?
DeanW
You can't really do a mechanical check on an auction car but if it's still under warranty there's nothing really to worry about. Every car sold through auction is HPI clear but you'd have to check for any paintwork on sight. I'm not saying everyone should go and buy their next car from auction but if you're on a budget and have no PX and don't need the finance facilities then you'll definately get more car for your money
wyliss
Got ya. Just looked on the site and their is a A4 Cab in metallic blue, year 2002, manual with 25251 on the clock. Do you have any idea how much it will go for? Thanks
lottiefox
What engine size in it? As said before, probably best to go for the 1.8T or 3.0 - I had a 2.4 - silky smooth but darned heavy and DRANK fuel and oil.....

wyliss
It a 2.4 in met blue. What did you mean by the warning lights?
lottiefox
I had a few problems with various warning lights - some of which were a fault but the oil one just meant it drank oil! 2.4 is silky engine, but in honesty I would have gone for the 1.8T had I chosen again. Or the 3.0 if my budget had allowed. So, I just went for a TT instead!
Tiny_Tim
Hi all, new to this forum game, John_Carter put me on to. I agree with Cab_Lab, buying your car from the Auctions isn't for everyone, i have bought 2 of my cars from there and haven't had a problem with either, so will buy from there again. IF you do decide to buy from the auction you will def be saving yourself plenty pounds. So with the money saved you could get a remap ! !

wyliss
Thanks tiny tim and welcome. Did you get an engineer to take a look over the cars or did it have a warranty?. Thing that worries me is spending all that money and then finding out something is wrong big time !. Went to a stealer today and they want 22k for a 52 plate 2.4 sport......couldnt believe it. Take a look at this for the money..... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Audi-A4-Cabriolet-...1QQcmdZViewItem p.s. whats a remap?

Chav
mine's a 3.0 CVT etc, etc, but my mileage is much higher, and that one on ebay is currently at only £17K with an hour to go. Bit of a bargain when you consider its a £32K car.
wyliss
I know thats what I was thinking. Checked his feedback etc and its 100% all customers well happy with the seller. I suppose 17k is not bad for that spec of motor, still has warranty, 3.0 litre and sport spec. Would you be tempted to go down the Ebay route ( obviously looking at the vehicle first before bidding and doing hpi/engineers reports etc)? DeanW
dibbs, don't get sucked in mate there's got to be a catch with that car - it's just too cheap. If something appears to be to good to be true then usually it is. Look anywhere else and that car is £22K minimum, it wouldn't suprise me if that was his mate bidding on it so a real buyer didn't end up winning the auction
Milo
It went for £18,100 in the end.
