thought i might get more joy discussing this than in the ads section but figured it was about time to upgrade from my [overclocked] 2100+.

Ideally want a Barton 400MHz 3200+ or else the Barton unlocked 2500+ [or the 2500MP] which i understand can get to 2.2GHz ie 3200+ speeds.

Want to squeeze some more life out of my machine but can't find either chip....so if anyone is jumping onto the Athlon64 bandwagon and has one to flog... cool.gif

i have an Asus A7N8X v2.0 deluxe so can use the 200MHz FSB.

I had cherry-picked all my components for overclocking when i put my machine together [stepping of 2100+ cpu, make of ram, board revision etc etc] and myTwinmos ram runs 200MHz fine too.

The 2100+ has been running on the 166FSB [333] at 2400+ speeds pretty much from day 1. I can squeeze it up to 2GHz but feel a little uncomfortable about the higher volts needed to do it and figured for stability i may as well try for the better cpu before they disappear altogether!

tobe honest if you cant get the 333 FSB id get yourself a new motherboard either a pc chips one from ebuyer for £15 or something like a gygbyte GY7vaxp or Asus 7vaxp for around £20 on ebay , both cracking boards, you could then go up to 3.2athlon and ram to speeds of 2700 so would be no more than £70 all in with processor and board, you will find you will get at least £40 for your board and processor on ebay as wel !

Tom mate i am confused!

I can get upto 400MHz FSB

Is this what you meant or am i not getting your point?

my system can run 266/333/400 and the PC3200 ram is fine too.

my 2100+ is currently runnning at 1.9Ghz; i didnt get your point about the 3.2 Athlon - as this is what i am trying to get hold of in the first place crazy.gifconfused.gif

overclockers have the athlon xp - m 2500 for 70 quid. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/AMD_Athlon_XP__Mobile_.html

I would check how much you can get for your system on ebay and consider upgrading to an athlon 64. Bit more money but so much faster. Get the right board and you can overclock the low end chips real high. I got a cheap deal on an asus sli paired with a venice core 3000+ its stable all day long at 2.6ghz oh and it even maanges to wipe the floor with a dual core pentium D 2.8ghz for video encoding. Go on you know you want to...

i do want to, i really really do but have to save my pennies at the moment hence trying to squeeze good old skt A for all i can!

people on fleabay need an IQ test nowadays - the last 3 bids have all gone above the £75-£100 one can buy the 3200+ for in the few remaning shops that sell them!
