I have a 2000 estate TDi SE with a "gamma" head unit which is cd compatable. someone said the car will have the wiring in the boot for cd changer, where exactly do i look?? and how many pins is the connector likely to have?? karlosthejackal
Hi, I don't think the lead is fitted on all models, at least it wasn't on my 1998 1.8 se passat, but from reading other posts on this site, it was fitted in the factory as standard on some models, depending on year of manufacture. I seem to remember WOBBY mentioning it in a previous post, perhaps he will be able to throw some light on the subject.
asta
the cd changer goes in the left hand cubby hole in the boot. on mine it has a first aid symbol on it. you take off the panel and it should be sitting in there. you will need to take off the trim to see if the cables are there. there are differences because on mine there are no holes for the cables to come through. pugboy
Doubt it has mate. If the car isn't equiped with the cage in the boot then I dont see why a wire would be in there. My workmate has a 00 V plate TDI and that doesn't have the wire to the boot.
zchybrid
Yeah, had a look and couldn't see any spare wires/connectors. Might see if i can stick one of the single entry "6 disc" players in the glove box, at least it'll only be a short wire from the head unit that way... Wobby
A bit delayed here!! Been on holiday. It wasn't fitted on my 2001 Passat. I bought the lead with the changer. You have to remove quiet a bit of trim to run the lead properly. It took me about 3 hours to run the cable, mount a new cradle for the changer and get it up and running and put all the trim back together. If you do fit it yourself, some of the trim parts are easily breakable and its easy to miss the odd fixing. Take your time and if all the fixings are off most parts lift off easily without force
