hinchy
Had a problem with my car over the last year now. It cuts out quite ramdomly at speed or more often when idle at a juntion. It normally starts up again in a few minutes. I have had it on a diagnostic machine and no fault has been found. Have replaced the iginition module, fuel switch, distributer cap, rotor arm, HT leads & spark plugs. Have also had a new key coded as it was a suspected immoboliser issue. None of this has made any difference now so my next step is to take it to VW but I really dont want to do that. Any idea's would be great.
R32North
MAF or Coil packs seem to be the cause of many a problem on VWs. Mulkbear where are you (VW Tech). ? SDF
mulkbear
Sounds very much like the ECU power supply relay (sorry i don't know the relay number off hand) but i do know it is in location 3 on the relay board.
hinchy
I took it to a garage last week and they told me that I did not have an ECU relay - when the guy serached for the part against my model of car it didn't offer an ECU relay. I have seen this relay mentioned on a GTI forum relating to the same problem. Is there an alternative relay for the GL's?
mulkbear
Trust me a R reg golf will have a ECU. Is your vehicle a 8V or a 16V
hinchy
took it to VW and they have told me the power supply relay needs changing. They think it's over heating which causes the intermittent nature of the fault. sounds reasonable to me, although £9 for a part and £90 for the labour is not funny!! cheers for the advice though
