Escobar74
Two weeks ago I noticed my engine overheating whilst stuck in traffic. When I checked it I saw that the water level was way too low. The engine was like an oven!! Ever since, every once in a while it feels like my engine wants to cut out for a few seconds (mostly happens when waiting for a red light..). It'll start shaking for one/ two seconds, and then continues to purr as if nothing happened...!! Getting worried about what causes this. Any suggestions as to what that might be? Ska
Welcome to TSN First thing to do is to check the contents of the coolant reservoir; is it nice and clear or does it smell oily? Then look in the oil filler on top of the engine and see if you can see any creamy deposit in the engine oil. If there is some oily creamy white stuff in the engine then the head gasket is gone. Fill the collant reservior to the max level and see how long it takes to go down to the min mark- this may pin point a leak(hopefully just a pipe somewhere). The engines on these cars run very hot anyway what size engine etc is your A8? You should also get the ECU interrogated for any fault codes. Hope it nothing too serious
Escobar74
Thanks! I'll have it checked out at the garage, as I haven't got a clue about cars. My ABS and traction went aswell (according to my dash computer). This is a 2.8 litre engine by the way. Thanks for your advise!!
