Cleaning

Not really passat specific but being a passat owner (1.8T sport '99) I thought this the best place to ask.

Can anyone recommend any really good cleaning products for interior and exterior of car. Polish, cleaning products and any other relevant items.

Does anyone know of a good reasonably priced leather cleaner? I currently use autoglym leather cleaner and care cream but a new product would be worth trying.

Exterior is currently sorted out with a Flash car wash gun (don't laugh!) I was extremely surprised how good these are. The auto dry feature is the best. It now only takes 45 mins max to wash and dry my passat. No chamois required!!!!

Your opinions and ideas would be appreciated.

If you wanna get stains from the carpet or other cloth trim, then i would recommend "GROOMS" interior foam cleaner ( spray can ) you can buy it from halfrauds about £5 very good with a brush to scrub with.

Ditch the flash car wash thingy..... a couple of buckets, meguiers gold class shampoo, a lambswool wash mitt. Thats to start with, then either a meguiers water magnet chamois or a natural leather (no real alternative). Ok, not to polish... first all make sure the paint work is clean from grit and scratches... if not use a clay bar and then some cutting compount (light) to remove any imperfections. Use only pure polish... not the usual halfords rubbish which is a mixture of all three (cleaning, polish and wax). Meguiers produce a pure polish from there professional range, it is very good. We finish off with a pure sealant (wax), i use ps21, but meguiers 16 or something called Pinnacle Souveran is very good also. All in all there is no easy and quick method to getting the best from your car other than separate, detailed cleaning. Good luck.

Or alternatively, take it down the BP garage carwash stick £3 in the slot and it'll be clean for about 4 days, just like if you had spent 5 hrs polishing it with 25 different products.

I have always used Swissol products, not sure what now (see TSN news section for details). Very good wax finish and lasts better than the few quid in the car wash.

You didn't mention what colour your car was (did you ?) I have a black 1.8T saloon which I clean with the Flash gun system - apparantley this works better on dark coloured cars than lighter colours.

I was intrigued to know just how good the system was and read a lot of info - check the "Cleaning" section from the Main Index of this site.

I use Meguires scratch X for minor scratches - Fantastic and only £8 from Halfords , followed by Mer polish to shine and seal (also from Halfords) this sytem works very well for me - I hate car washes at garages etc. , they scratch your car more than they clean.

As for leather care unfortunately I can't help you there but someone in the cleaning section probably can.
