P_G
Just been cleaning the car today and used a clay bar for the first time after Milo's criticsim of how clean my car was at the last meet. The results have been good, but bloody hell, I was on the job for over an hour and a half. Surley that's not right? I was almost polishing off the coat of Autoglym UDS in the dark after all that. I'd post some pics but typically went to Tesco to get some much needed nourishment after an afternoon of cleaning and guess what.... it starts to rain. If it's not too bad though I'll get out early in the am and take pics to show the results.
UBM
You'll get quicker! Spray the Quick Detailer on and wipe the bar over (well a third of it!) and keep working it. Shouldn;t take that long though....
sayerbloke
It took me something like two hours the first time I did it. The second time was around an hour, but I was finding a faster way to do it towards the end [as well as getting through less Quik Detailer!]. Been equally impressed with the result both times. UBM
Yep you can - I store mine in a bit of cling film and then in one of those food bags tied up to stop it drying out! I'm still on my first third - Yorkshireman me! With even deeper pockets!
P_G
Flippin 'ek, your pants must be round your ankles with all that money in those pockets, no wonder you can't reach them to buy another bar! Or has Mrs UBM confiscated your pocket money now with new arrival en route?

[/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] Don't worry, Lady P G has confiscated mine and she hasn't even got a bun in the oven yet! That's why I'm using my secret mattress stash to pay for my remap and advocating 'seperate' bank accounts and a joint one.
UBM
Still have the latter! She is now using my e-bay log-in and account to get maternity stuff - so no sneaky purchases by me...
P_G
Unlucky UBM. Lady PG isn't too hot on the IT and internet so thus far I'm in the clear, but she's getting better....
NeilB
Took me ages on my first go with my clay bar. I didn't help matters when I dropped it on the floor and I had to get the other half of it out the shed

S3Bangs
Just another idea for you clay bar users which I do. After prolonged use when its getting hard and dirty, I pop it in the microwave for about 45 secs. This makes it pretty soft like pasticine, so you can mix it all up and remould it to its original shape again. I've used the same one for quite a while now! stewarta13wsb
Mine arrived today (thanks C&S) so my 'virgin question' is... am I right in thinking when I use this thing it will remove all the wax I've lovingly applied to date? Milo
[ QUOTE ] Just been cleaning the car today and used a clay bar for the first time after Milo's criticsim of how clean my car was at the last meet. [/ QUOTE ] I've just found this. It wasn't criticism, just a polite suggestion that clay + Meguiars could produce the glass like finish that my car was sporting
Phil330
Well, i am waiting for mine to be delivered, so when i do, i no doubt will have some experiences to share after tackling my bro's S2000, which has flies on it from begining of th summer! NewNiceMrMe
I've always used a full clay bar! I buy the Meguiars Quik Detailer kit with the clay bar included and the last time I only got 2 'runs' out of the car before I decided it was a bit too dirty to continue using. I've just had a new one delivered though so I'll be using the full bar again this weekend. Why use just a third of one (or half). Is this purely for economical reasons? I'd rather use the full one and get it done a bit quicker!
Milo
Me too, I used the full bar. It's easier to hold and use and makes the job quicker. My clay bar has actually gone very sticky and it comes off on your hands when you hold it so I think it's time for a new one.
P_G
Where do you get clay bars seperately from then?
NewNiceMrMe
[ QUOTE ] Where do you get clay bars seperately from then? [/ QUOTE ] I don't bother. The clay bar is chucked away and I continue using the Quik Detailer after each wash just to top the wax up. Then I buy another full set and that way I build up a nice stock of the misty stuff! Full kit cost me £12.99 last time.
Huss
I,m with UBM on this A third of the bar will fit comfortably in the hand and you retain some clean for the next time. Used it on the A8 last weekend and it never fails to amaze me the 'dirt' that the clay lifts from an otherwise immaculate finish. I took Runflat's suggestion and used an old piece on the windscreen - followed by two coats of Rain X (Halford's equivalent actually). Boy!!! what a result. I could almost do away with the wipers.
