Shamrockez
Hi all, some of you may remember the problems I had with my Bug from this post: http://www.tyresmoke.net/ubbthreads/show...2&fpart=all Anyway, it was the timing belt tensioner which was at fault. It appears to have bent and a bit has broken off: Do you think this was due to a faulty part or the workmanship? Cheers *Lucy*
pingpongpo
Looking at the part that has broken, I would say it is highly doubtful that it is the part that is at fault. The only way that could have broken is either fitting it incorrectly or damage caused when fitting it. I have no experience of this part in particular, but a closer look at the point of breakage would be able to pin point exactly what caused it. mulkbear
I would expect to see some sort of damage or force marks or signs of damage but there is no sign at the two points at A but there is non, and point B looks very much like metal fatigue but it may be the case that the tensor locating dowel (the bit that snapped off) has not be in it’s hole and has been pressed against the engine block and which in turn has caused the locating dowel to snap off. Sorry but I am unsure but any good technician could buff his was out of trouble and blame it on a fault/ incorrect part or metal fatigue. So good luck and remember that knowledge is power and power is knowledge!

Tobes49 [/ QUOTE ] To be honest, I dont know? Cant see why that would break off, On the other hand looking at a tensioner today, by what I can see even if it did break off the tensioner would still carry on working. Thats why I would like to know what happened to the belt. The other thing is something doesn't look correct on this picture: But I would like to see some pictures of the belt, Can you get them? Shamrockez
I don't have the belt, all i have is the tensioner. I'll ring the garage and see if they still have it.
