GTi vs. ST

On the subject of Apes... I love this quote...

" These days, the critics say, the Golf is indistinguishable under its skin from an Octavia, with which it shares a chassis and other components.

This is an interesting argument but it doesn’t really stand scrutiny. After all, humans share 95% of their genes with chimpanzees. That doesn’t mean a chimp would be as quick as Fernando Alonso in a Formula One car, or, for that matter, that Alonso would be as good at selling PG Tips."

gonna use that one again 169144-ok.gif

GTI vs. ST....It's the same question as ever....

Doubtless the ST is a great car, performs just as well and costs less than our beloved Mk5 GTI. But I doubt if it's as good an all-rounder - Will it take Jeremy C's chest of draws? In my view it's not as well styled either in or out and, right or wrong, it doesn't have such a classy image. And last but not least, there is no DSG option.

Which is the better car? - As usual it comes down to what you want the car for and that extra indefinable something which is equivalent to sex-appeal.

I suppose the journalists have to find something to write about!

After reading the article I thought its good that Ford have come back with a good solid car (who remembers the days of wishing they had an XR3i!).

The ST may be a bit faster, but when its all said and done I'd have stil bought the GTi. Better image, practical (boring I know but I wanted a hatchback again) and of course the DSG would have all placed me with the GTi. One thing though, it does make the leather option on the GTi look pricy.
